Ozark's Alexis Barber finished seventh and Brocklyn Barber 18th at the Class 4 State Cross Country Meet in Jefferson City on Saturday.

Alexis was clocked in 19:25. She was in the top 10 throughout the race and was as high as fourth at the one-mile mark.

Brocklyn also got off to a good start. She was eighth one mile into the race, before placing 18th in 19:44.56. 

Brocklyn closed strong. She ran the last tenth of a mile in :48, only one second shy of the finish by winner Ginger Murnieks, of Lee's Summit West. Brocklyn's fast finish allowed her to edge Liberty's Elizabeth Stinson and her time of 19:44.68.

Murnieks ran away from the field while clocked in 18:35. She was :25 ahead of runner-up Teresa Valdivia, of Blue Springs, and her time of 19:00.

Nixa's Alicen Ashley finished 43rd in 20:23. She was seventh among all freshmen.

In the Class 4 boys race, Nixa's Blake Procell finished 78th in 17:22 and Eros Sustaita 147th in 18:11.

Chadwick's Evan Smith matched his finish from a year ago by placing sixth in the Class 1 boys race. He turned in a time of 17:52.

Smith had an eventful day. He was in the front pack the majority of the race and was among four runners leading while clocked in 5:04 for the first mile. He was in second place and only four seconds off the lead after two miles.

Over the last 1.1 mile, Smith ran a 7:12. Winner Chase Ratliff, of Weableau, ran a 6:30 during the same stretch en route to his finishing time of 17:10. School of the Ozarks' Titus Thompson was second in 17:22.

Chadwick sophomore Zack Loveland was 56th in 19:20.

In the Class 1 girls race, Sparta's Kimber Rains gained the final medal by placing 25th in 22:51. The Lady Trojans' Michaela House was 32nd in 23:30, Brooke Wiggins 59th in 24:40 and Hannah Hudson 115th in 26:19.

Sparta was ninth in the team standings.

Blue Eye freshmen Riley Arnold and Avery Arnold finished 1-2. Riley was clocked in 20:07 and Avery in 20:17. They attended grade school and junior high in Nixa.

In the Class 2 boys race, Spokane sophomore Sam Shuman enjoyed a strong finish to claim a medal and finish 22nd in 17:59. He spent most of the race in 28th.

The Owls' Grant Stewart was 45th in 18:37, Caleb Lovata 84th in 19:17 and Michael Eddings 95th in 19:30.

Spokane was eighth in the team standings.
