Dewey Paul Applegate, 75, of Ozark, was born Dec. 1, 1942, the son of Melvis and Bertha (Willis) Applegate. He died June 30, 2018 in his home.  Dewey served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965, at Little Rock Air Force Base. On Aug. 21, 1965, he and Wannis Johnson were married.

Dewey started a career in sales immediately following his honorable military service. His love for meeting new people and his “gift of gab” resulted in a reputation of honesty, generosity and kindness to everyone who met him. His career lasted nearly 50 years. He started out selling cars, followed by selling the Cambridge diet formula and ended his career selling cinnamon rolls at Silver Dollar City. He was happiest sharing an early cup of coffee with friends, telling stories and discussing current events. He cherished his faith, family and friends above everything else, always speaking proudly of each one.

Dewey and Wannis are lifelong members of Union Hill Baptist Church in Keltner. They were attending Calvary Baptist Church in Ozark at the time of Dewey’s death.

Dewey is survived by his wife, Wannis; and three children and their spouses, TaWatha Doss and husband Marc, Satotha Burr and husband Robert and LaRell Applegate and wife Geralyn. Dewey also had eight beloved grandchildren: Kourtney Cross, Haleigh Gray, Chandler Doss, Allison Burr, Gracyn Applegate, Ella Applegate, Carter Applegate and Everest Applegate; two brothers, Kenneth “Bill” Applegate and Willis “Duke” Applegate; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvis and Bertha Applegate; his sister, Sally Carrol; and a brother, James “Dee” Applegate.
