Eldon Leroy Cox

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. April 28, at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Funeral: 10 a.m. April 29, also at the funeral home. Burial, with full military honors, followed at McConnell-Bledsoe Cemetery, Nixa.

Eldon Leroy Cox, 82, of Nixa, passed away April 23, 2019. He was born Feb. 15, 1937, in Coffee County, Kansas, to Charles and Maude (Traylor) Cox. He was raised in Topeka and Ottawa, Kansas. Eldon married Shirley Bullington Aug. 16, 1959. They were married for over 42 years until her death in 2002.

At 13, Eldon began work with his brother, Lyle on a trash route. He was a hard worker. Eldon joined the Army National Guard at 18. He served seven years as a wireman. Eldon did some farming and worked construction in Chillicothe, then moved to Nixa in 1970, and worked construction building homes. He went to work for Nixa Public Schools as director of maintenance. He retired after 21 years in 2001.

Eldon was a member of the Nixa Church of Christ and became a lay preacher, preaching at churches in Missouri, Colorado, Kansas and Arizona. Eldon met Laura Stice at Jay Street Church of Christ in Lakewood, Colorado. Six years later, Eldon and Laura were married on April 12, 2011.

Eldon was a volunteer fireman for the Nixa Fire Department for 10 years. He loved working in the yard, growing and nurturing flowers. He dearly loved his family.

Eldon is survived by his wife, Laura, of eight years; children Juanita Lange, her husband Mark of Tucson, Arizona, Tim Cox, his wife Heide of Moundridge, Kansas, Fonda Ellis, her husband Gary of Richardson, Texas, Paul Cox, his wife Andy of Ozark, Missouri and Charles Stice and his wife Linda of Morrison, Colorado; and grandchildren Skyler Ellis, Briana Ellis, James Lange, Alisia Cox and Samantha Cox.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley; and siblings Elva Cox, Irene Cox and Lyle Cox.
