Funeral: 10 a.m. April 25 at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Jerry Francisco officiating. Burial followed in Richwood Cemetery.
Gene Edwin Asher, 72, of Nixa, died April 21, 2016, in his home. He was born May 2, 1943, in Springfield, the son of Rodger and Keithley Etta (Whittington) Asher. Gene was baptized into First Baptist Church of Nixa. He was a 1961 graduate of Nixa High School. Gene served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961-1968. On Nov. 12, 1967, he and Susan Jean Brooks married.
Gene loved horses and managed horse breeding farms in Missouri and Illinois. Gene enjoyed raising vegetables and flowers. He was a member of North Nixa Baptist Church. Gene was able to make friends with anyone he met.
Survivors include his wife, Susan; a daughter, Ann McConnell or Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Rebecca Asher of Springfield and Alexander McConnell of Republic; two great-grandchildren, Tamriel Main and Amory Barton, both of Springfield; two brothers, Joe Asher of Ozark and Jerry Asher; a sister, Rodgetta Henderson of Springfield; and nieces and nephews.
