Funeral: 11 a.m. June 9, at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Mansfield, with Rev. Larry Scott officiating. Burial followed at Mansfield City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mansfield Area Historical Society & Museum, P.O. Box 374, Mansfield, MO 65704.

Gloria Faye Bogart Carter, 85, died June 3, 2018, in her home.

Gloria Bogart was born near Mansfield in Wright County, Dec. 20, 1932, to Rev. Jordon and Nirva Shanes Bogart. On July 31, 1949, Gloria Bogart and Lewis Carter were married. To this union, one daughter and four sons were born.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Carter; infant daughter Linda; sons Jeffrey and Michael; her parents; two brothers, Harry Bogart and Jerry Bogart; and two sisters, Wilma Kinnamon and Norma Drake.

Gloria is survived by her sons, Allen Carter and wife Gail and Greg Carter and wife Dawn Garrity; daughter-in-law Janeen Carter-Paulsen and Eric; five grandchildren, Douglas A. Carter, Wayne Carter and wife L’Amanda, Heather Shipman and husband Lee, Melinda Thrasher and husband Devin and Amanda Schudy and husband Kris; and six great-grand-children, Aubrey Ann and Amelia Grace Thrasher, Kloe Jean and Karter Schudy, Hunter Heffernon and Xavier Wilson. Gloria also leaves behind many friends and other relatives for whom she cared deeply.

Gloria worked for over 26 years at Dayco in Springfield. She was a well-known genealogist. She wrote the Ozarks Genealogy column in the Springfield News-Leader for 23 years. She taught genealogy classes at SMSU for 12 years.

Gloria was a member of the Randolph Loving Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution in Wichita, Kansas. She was very proud to be part of the organization, since she was an avid genealogist, had researched her family and her husband’s family tree back several generations, and traveled throughout the United States tracing records and visiting family.

Gloria attended the Sac River Cowboy Church.
