Jackie Mae (Roussell) Locke, 82, of Pine Ridge, died peacefully, Sunday, May 27, 2018, surrounded by the loving care of her daughters and grandchildren.

Jackie attended high school in Forsyth and graduated in the class of 1952. In her early 20s, Jackie went to work for Southwestern Bell and retired after 32 years. Throughout her career, she broke many barriers for women by serving as the first female in multiple roles. This courage and strength was present in her personal life, as she encouraged her daughters to be just as determined to achieve goals regardless of setbacks.

She experienced loss, grief and hardships which made her only more generous, more open-hearted and more fearless in her life. Through her determination and sheer force of will, she helped us chart a way forward and heal our bitter divisions. Now, in this moment after so much hard-fought progress, it is up to all of us to pick up where she left off.

To anyone that knew her, Jackie was a strong, independent and selfless woman who constantly demonstrated love and kindness toward all she came in contact with, always putting others before herself.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ethel (Baker) Roussell; and two brothers, RJ Roussell and John Paul Roussell.

Jackie leaves behind many cherished friends and a large family including her sister, Phyllies “Jeannie” Rickman; three daughters, Jolene, Holly and Janice; five grandchildren, Tabatha, Joanna, Jessica, Daniel, and Jennifer; eight great-great grandchildren; and multiple cousins; nieces; nephews; and their extended families.
