Visitation: 6-8 p.m. June 5 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Nixa. Funeral: 9 a.m. June 6, also at the church, with Father Mark Boyer officiating. Burial will follow at 11:00 A.M. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. 

Jerry E. Woods, 82, of Springfield, died Thursday, May 31, 2018. He was born Feb. 3, 1936, in Illinois, the son of Eugene and Arlene (Buckles) Woods. 

Jerry proudly served his country for four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS John S. McCain.

Jerry grew up in southern Illinois riding and racing motorcycles with his little brother, Dick.  He later moved to Topeka, Kansas, where he met Patricia “Pat” Slusser, and on Nov, 5, 1966, the two were united in marriage. Jerry was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for more than 30 years. He lived in Kansas and Ohio while working and upon retirement moved to Bradenton, Florida. Jerry and Pat enjoyed traveling all over the country, much of it by motorcycle, including a trip to Nova Scotia.

In 2007, Jerry and Pat moved to Nixa. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Nixa, where he made many new friends.  

Jerry is survived by his children, Lori Woods, Stacy Ecker and husband Mike and Jerry Woods, Jr.; grandchildren Sheriden, James and Matthew; and brothers Billy Woods, Ted Woods, and Dick Woods. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Pat.
