John Alfred Grant, 74, of Nixa, died Thursday Nov. 9, 2017. John was born on Nov. 17, 1942 in St. Louis to Warrant Officer Benjamin Grant and Lena Grant. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business at Southwest Missouri State University. John also served as an accountant in the Army Reserves until retiring to an accountant for the Civil Service.
As a gardener, John enjoyed hostas and served as a volunteer for the Springfield Botanical Garden at Nathaniel Greene Park of which his mother was a founding member of the board. John was also an avid train and stamp collector and was a member of local clubs.
John is preceded in death by his father, Ben Grant, mother Lena Winzeler; father-in-law Elmer Winzeler; and sister-in-law Martha Winzeler.
He is survived by his step-brothers Stephen Winzeler and wife Sharon, of Nixa, Roger Winzeler of Nixa, Jim Winzeler of Peoria, Illinois; as well as nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
