Opal Pauline O’Neill, 91, Springfield, died June 6, 2014, in Springfield. Opal was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Grandin, Mo., graduated from Doniphan High School and attended Drury University.

Owen R. O’Neill and Opal P. Bacon were married Nov. 30, 1940, in Alton, Mo. To this union five sons were born. Major O’Neill was killed in action while serving his country (Korea 1950).

Opal served as the Springfield Missouri Regional Medical Program Coordinator and Administrative Director for Regional Emergency Service Upgrade. She was also a member and past president of American Business Women’s Association, was active in the Springfield Chamber of Commerce and contributed to numerous charities. She received the 1983 Woman of the Year Award from American Business Woman’s Association.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Rowe O’Neill, Major, US Army; parents, Fay and Nora Bacon; brothers, Fay and John; and her son John Patrick.

Opal is survived by her sons Richard (Deborah), Owen (Ida), Michael (Susan) and Steve; a sister, Fern Baggett, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
