Funeral: 3 p.m. Oct. 11 in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Visitation: 5–7 p.m. Oct. 10 in the funeral home. Cremation will follow the services. Memorial donations may be made to Care to Learn-Nixa.

Steven Wayne Wood, 60, of Nixa, died Oct. 6. He was born Aug. 22, 1957, in Nevada, Missouri. Steven graduated from Field Kinley High School in Coffeyville, Kansas. He received his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Educational Administration from Missouri State University. On May 31, 1980, he and Marsha Ann Kinder were married.

Steven retired from the Nixa School System in 2014. He taught special education, horticulture and wood shop at the Nixa Junior High School for 27 years.

He was an active member of the Union Hill Church of Christ, where he helped others through the Grief Recovery Program. Through the Nixa Parks Department, Steven was a volunteer for Stream Team, leading youth on river clean-up projects. He enjoyed fishing for trout on Lake Taneycomo and hunting. At home and for others, Steven did yard work, gardening and landscaping. He was very active in the Nixa Band Booster Club for many years.

Survivors include his wife Marsha; daughter, Amy Wood and husband Barret VanHorn of Billings; son, Steven Daniel Wood of Springfield; his parents, Thomas Ralph and Shirley Ann (Johnson) Wood of Coffeyville, Kansas; brother, Chris Wood of Elma, Washington; brother, Scott Wood of Wann, Oklahoma; sister, Tammy Garretson of Coffeyville, Kansas; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews.
