William McConnell, 67, of Highlandville, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born July 27, 1947, the son of William V. and Eula (Fite) McConnell at West Plains. Bill began his 40 year law enforcement career as a member of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. In 1984, Bill joined the Ozark Police Department as a lieutenant and worked his way through the ranks to become Ozark Chief of Police. In 1999, Bill joined the Cassville police department and served as Cassville Chief of Police until his retirement. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a military veteran. Bill was an avid outdoorsman with interests in fishing, coon hunting, trapping season and especially enjoyed the challenge of team roping. Bill was a gentleman and well-known for his caring personality.

Bill is survived by his special friend, Dianna Brooks; his father, William V. McConnell; four children, Brandon McConnell, Shane McConnell and wife Kim, Matt Hoover and Summer Cullen; two step-sons, Jamie and Jason Browne; two sisters, Tracy McManana and husband Tom and Cathy Northrup and husband Larry; many fellow officers; and other caring relatives. Bill was preceded in death by his mother.
