High illness rate sends Chadwick schools virtual

Posted

Students in the Chadwick R-I School District stopped attending classes in person on Jan. 12.

Superintendent Michael Wallace explained in a letter to parents that the reason is because of a "high volume of absenteeism due to a variety of illnesses and symptoms," across the K-12 school district.

Chadwick switched to its alternative methods of instruction plan, or AMI, effective for Jan. 12-18. Students will be required to complete and turn in coursework as assigned for those school days. Teachers made themselves available for virtual instruction Jan. 12-14, and students who were absent on Jan. 11 were asked to pick up their assigned materials from the school.

"Students and parents are encouraged to communicate with instructional staff via email or phone class," Wallace said in the letter to parents.

The school district also made lunch available for drive-through pickup from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. on days that school would normally be in session. Chadwick also continued to have extracurricular activities, like basketball games, during the period of alternative instruction.
