Mayors challenge Ozark, Nixa to give blood

Posted

Ozark Mayor Bradley Jackson and Nixa Mayor Brian Steele are throwing their own version of the Backyard Brawl rivalry between their respective cities. It's all for a good cause.

Ozark and Nixa will each host blood drives for Community Blood Center of the Ozarks on Aug. 19.

The Ozark drive takes place from 12-6 p.m. at First Baptist Church at 1400 West Jackson Street. The Nixa drive takes place from 12-6 p.m. in the fellowship hall at The Bridge Church at 308 West Mount Vernon Street.

Steele encouraged Nixa residents to give as he read a proclamation for the dueling blood drives at a city council meeting July 26.

"A sufficient blood supply is a public health issue, both locally and nationally," Steele said.

Hospitals in Springfield and throughout the Midwest are operating off of low blood supplies. Due to the health concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, donations are lower than usual.

"Giving blood is the greatest gift that you can give today, because it will make a difference tomorrow in the lives of your relatives, friends and neighbors," Steele said.

All donors will be entered in a drawing for a $100 visa gift card courtesy of Central Bank. Donors will also get a free t-shirt while supplies last.
