Thrasher, Stidham shine in Clever's first-round District loss against Marionville

FORSYTH — Clever senior Sydnee Thrasher closed out her career in strong fashion, despite the Lady Jays being one and done at Districts.

Clever suffered a 2-1 first-round setback at the hands of Marionville in Class 2 District 6 action.

Thrasher shut out Marionville for six innings, before the Lady Comets rallied for two runs in the seventh.

It was another credible performance in the center circle for Thrasher in her first full year as the Lady Jays’ pitcher.

“I’m proud I was able to help keep us above .500. I had a lot of growth as a pitcher,” Thrasher said. “My home is still the outfield. I’m going to pride myself a lot in my career on my play in the outfield. Coming in and taking (pitching) over, I think I did pretty well.”

“To come in and be the starting pitching, kudos to her for her hard work and how much better she improved throughout the season,” coach Cheryl Grant said.

Clever shortstop Chloe Stidham was part of a stellar Lady Jays defensive effort versus Marionville. Among her highlights was a diving catch to her right of a Marionville drive.

“The first thing that came to my mind was to dive. I stuck my glove out there hoping I would get the ball and I did,” Stidham said.

“I had really strong defense behind me and the score board showed it,” Thrasher said.

Clever fell to Marionville after beating the Lady Comets twice in regular-season play.

“We could have done something. But we didn’t have hits when we had people on base,” Grant said. “Our bats weren’t what we needed them to be at the end and that’s what got us."
