NIXA SENIOR CENTER DANCES

The Nixa Senior Center holds dances regularly on Tuesday and Friday nights, as well as every fourth Saturday night of the month, at 7 p.m. Admission is $4. For more information, call (417) 725-2322. 

SENIOR’S PLACE EVENTS IN SPARTA

The Senior’s Place in Sparta is open weekdays 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Bingo is from 1-2:30 p.m. every Tuesday with a potluck at noon the first Tuesday of the month. Game day is 1 p.m. every Thursday with cards, dominoes, chess, checkers and more. Friday night is music jam from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Anyone with an instrument is welcome.

ABUNDANT BLESSINGS KIDS KLOSET

Abundant Blessings provides clothing for children in need and foster children. Hours of operation are 6-8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m.-noon Thursdays. FREE MAMMOGRAMS

CoxHealth is offering free mammograms every third Wednesday of the month. Check in 4-5:30 p.m. at the Breast Care Clinic, located inside the Hulston Cancer Center off James River Freeway in Springfield. The monthly program is provided through a partnership between the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks and CoxHealth. No appointment is necessary, and participants do not need to be a CoxHealth patient to receive one. For more information, call (417) 269-LADY.

The Nixa Senior Center hosts game nights every first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. They have several different card games, dominos and others, too. Be sure to bring snacks to share with other attendees. For more information, call (417) 725-2322.

THE LIBRARY VENUE: OPEN MIC MUSIC

Bring your instrument and voice and share your music with others at the Christian County Clever Branch Library. This event will take place every month’s first Tuesday through July 2. For more information, contact Charlie Barnes at (417) 581-2432. 

Second Tuesday

OZARK SENIOR CENTER NAIL CLINIC

The Ozark Senior Center hosts a free nail clinic for veterans on the second Tuesday of every month. Come and have your nails taken care of 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. There is no need to call to reserve a spot. Just show up. 

Every Tuesday and Thursday

YOGA AT THE LIBRARY

Debra Tucker, of 417 Create Art and Yoga, will teach a gentle, restorative yoga class for adults once a week, covering basic principles of alignment and technique. The event takes place 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

FREE CLASSES AT LEAST OF THESE FOOD PANTRY

Least Of These is offering free classes to anyone in the community. Classes include topics like living with chronic disease, money management and gardening. WILSON’S CREEK “SONS OF ERIN” EXHIBIT

A temporary exhibit commemorating the role of Irish-Americans in the Civil War is on display through June at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. Highlighting the exhibit are a number of artifacts, including a drum, photographs, pistols and personal items. The park is located 10 miles southwest of Springfield, at the intersections of Highway ZZ and FR 182. For more information, call (417) 732-2662.

FRONT PORCH FRIDAYS WITH NIXA FIRE FIGHTERS

The Nixa Fire Protection District is inviting the community to sit on its “front porch” 7-9 p.m. and visit with fire fighters. The crews will have the garage doors open, unless in the event of an emergency, in which the garages will be closed and the fire fighters will not be visible. Families can come by to ask questions, see the station or get a closer look at a fire truck. For more information, call the Nixa Fire Protection District at (417) 725-7314.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL SHOPPING 

The Christian County Elks Lodge is hosting back-to-school shopping at both Nixa and Ozark Walmarts for children registered through Least Of These Food Pantry. Shopping takes place 9:30 a.m.-noon at the Nixa Walmart July 6 and 13, and at the same time at the Ozark Walmart July 20 and 27. For more information, call (417) 693-2090.

ANIME CLUB AT THE LIBRARY

This fun event for teens in grades seven-12 explores the world of anime. Come watch the first couple of episodes of popular anime shows, eat snacks and collect anime buttons. Learn about “Cowboy Bebop” at this month’s event and “Planetarian” at the next.

RIDGECREST BAPTIST MUSIC NIGHT 

The Hosea Bilyeu Family invites readers to a special night of music at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 2210 W. Republic Road, Springfield. Admission is free for this 7 p.m. event. For more information, visit the Hosea Bilyeu Family Facebook page. 

STORYTIME WITH TINKERBELL

Least Of These Food Pantry in Ozark is still putting on free classes for community members. The July 8 class will discuss advanced planning for healthcare decisions. SECOND ANNUAL POOCHES, PURSES AND PARTY

The Shepherd of the Hills Human Society invites the surrounding public to its second annual Pooches, Purses and Party 6-9 p.m. The event will be held at the Branson Event Center at Branson Meadows, 4230 Greta Road. Bid on designer handbags, such as Coach, Betsy Johnson, Vera Bradley and Louis Vuitton, as well as other accessories and animal-themed mystery gifts.
