NIXA SENIOR CENTER EVENTS

The Nixa Senior Center holds dances regularly on Tuesday and Friday nights, as well as every second Saturday night of the month, at 7 p.m. Admission is $4. For more information, call (417) 725-2322. 

SENIOR’S PLACE EVENTS IN SPARTA

The Senior’s Place in Sparta is open weekdays 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Bingo is from 1-2:30 p.m. every Tuesday with a potluck at noon the first Tuesday of the month. Game day is 1 p.m. every Thursday with cards, dominoes, chess, checkers and more. Friday night is music jam from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Anyone with an instrument is welcome.

ABUNDANT BLESSINGS KIDS KLOSET

Abundant Blessings provides clothing for children in need and foster children. Hours of operation are 6-8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m.-noon Thursdays. OTC RICHWOOD VALLEY CAMPUS FREE ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES

Ozarks Technical Community College is accepting enrollment for its free Adult Education and Literacy classes at the Richwood Valley Campus. The classes provide individualized learning for adults who want to prepare for the High School Equivalency (HSE) exam, learn English as a second language or improve their reading, math and writing skills. Participants must be at least 17 years old and not enrolled in high school. Early enrollment is encouraged due to limited seating. To enroll, visit room 126 at the Richwood Valley campus the first or third Monday of the month at 8:45 a.m. or 5:30 p.m.

FREE MAMMOGRAMS

CoxHealth is offering free mammograms every third Wednesday of the month. Check in 4-5:30 p.m. at the Breast Care Clinic, located inside the Hulston Cancer Center off James River Freeway in Springfield. The monthly program is provided through a partnership between the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks and CoxHealth. No appointment is necessary, and participants do not need to be a CoxHealth patient to receive one. For more information, call (417) 269-LADY.

YOGA AT THE LIBRARY

Debra Tucker, of 417 Create Art and Yoga, will teach a gentle, restorative yoga class for adults once a week, covering basic principles of alignment and technique. The event takes place 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Second Saturday

OZARK SENIOR CENTER BREAKFAST

Breakfast benefitting the senior center will be held 7-9 a.m. every second Saturday of the month. Attend this week Feb. 27 or next month’s breakfast on March 9. The cost is $5 for a plate full of biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage and more. For more information, call (417) 581-2538.

OZARK SENIOR CENTER DANCES

The Ozark Senior Center will hold a western dance at 7 p.m. on the following Saturdays: March 2, 9, 23 and 30. Everyone is welcome.

WILSON’S CREEK “SONS OF ERIN” EXHIBIT

A temporary exhibit commemorating the role of Irish-Americans in the Civil War is on display through June at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. Highlighting the exhibit are a number of artifacts, including a drum, photographs, pistols and personal items. The park is located 10 miles southwest of Springfield, at the intersections of Highway ZZ and FR 182. For more information, call (417) 732-2662.

Feb. 28 – Event of the Week

A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING

Clever High School will host its second annual event, A Little Bit of Everything, 3:45-7:45 p.m. The event showcases projects, performances and artwork completed by high school students. All members of the community are welcome to stop by. A dinner consisting of sandwiches and chips will also be available to guests until food runs out. PROJECT GRADUATION DODGEBALL FUNDRAISER

CLEVER FISHING TEAM FUNDRAISER

A chili luncheon fundraiser will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Clever Fire Station, 406 N. Elm Ave., Clever. Kids cost $5 to eat—adults cost $10. There will also be a silent auction to take part in, as well as activities for the whole family to enjoy. 

March 6

CHRISTIAN COUNTY LONG-TERM RECOVERY WORKSHOP

Area business owners, non-profits, service agencies, churches, volunteer organizations, city administrators and more are encouraged to attend this 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. workshop regarding long-term recovery following a disaster. The workshop will focus on lessons learned from previous disasters and how communities rebuild and get back to normality. NIXA BLOOD DRIVE

Most blood types are in short supply. Christian County Residents can help by stopping by a Nixa blood drive 2-6 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 844 S. Gregg, Nixa. To be eligible to give blood, you must weigh 110 pounds, be in good health and present a valid photo ID. For more information, visit www.cbco.org.

NINTENDO SMASH BROS. TOURNAMENT

Do you love playing Nintendo's Super Smash Bros.? Do you love playing on Nintendo's Switch game console? The Ozark Branch Library has both in this awesome, teens-only program. Snacks and drinks will be provided, too. Please let a librarian know about any food allergies. The tournament takes place 4-5 p.m. An ultimate tournament will take place 5-6:30 p.m. 

NATURE CENTER HIKE

As spring nears, it’s a great time to get outside. Walk the Springfield Nature Center Trails with a real naturalist 1-3:30 p.m. They’ll point out some of the key features of the walkways, discuss animals and plants and share the beauty of Ozarks nature. The hike is two miles in length, so be sure to wear the proper apparel. This event is for ages 10 and up.

NIXPO BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY EXPO

Exhibitors and thousands of attendees will descend on Nixa High School for the 24th annual NIXPO. Roughly 125 business vendors will be on site 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There will also be food available for purchase. Attendance is free to the public. Businesses or organizations that want to purchase a booth should contact the Nixa Area Chamber of Commerce at (417) 725-1545.

March 19-22

TIGER PAW PRESCHOOL SCREENINGS

Tiger Paw Early Childhood Center is welcoming little ones for preschool screenings. Children at the age of three or four who live in the Ozark School District are eligible. Screenings are free. To schedule an appointment, call (417) 582-5992. Be sure to bring your child’s immunization records, their birth certificate or legal proof of name and age, and a proof of residency, such as a utility bill.

VETERANS COFFEE AND DONUTS 

Christian County veterans are welcome to attend the Ozark Senior Center’s coffee and donuts breakfast at 9 a.m. Veterans can bring a couple of members of their family or a friend to meet and chat with other veterans.

FIRE ACADEMY TRAINING

Training for the first annual Christian County Volunteer Fire Academy begins March 26. Classes will be held in the evenings and on weekends to avoid conflict with work schedules. For more information, contact your local fire department.
