After driving nearly an hour to Greenfield at Districts last Tuesday, Billings' volleyball team drove more than three hours to Lesterville for Sectionals on Saturday.
The nearly 500 miles the Lady Wildcats logged were worth it, as they earned a trip to the Class 1 State Tournament.
Billings rallied for a 21-25, 25-20, 25-21 victory over Lesterville in the Quarterfinal round to earn its ticket to State.
Earlier in the night, the Lady Wildcats whipped Crane 25-10, 25-18 in a Sectional match.
Liz Gearing posted an assist on nearly half of Billings' points against Crane. She had 23 assists, to go along with six digs and four kills. Morgan Heimer recorded nine kills, Bailey Groves contributed seven kills, 18 digs and 10 receive passes, Bailie Williams added six digs and two aces and Lexy VanZandt chipped in a dozen digs.
Billings (26-5-2) will be joined by Advance (33-2-1), Calvary Lutheran (25-9-2) and West Platte (29-5-2) at State.
Billings avenged two regular-season losses by sweeping Miller 25-19, 25-18 for the Class 1 District 7 championship at Greenfield on Tuesday.
For the Lady Wildcats, it was their third straight District title.
Billings received 27 assists and 14 digs from Liz Gearing, 12 kills, 15 digs and 12 receive passes from Bailey Groves, seven kills from Morgan Heimer and seven kills, nine digs and six receive passes from Bailie Williams.
In the semifinal round earlier in the night, Billings breezed past Lockwood 25-7, 25-22.
Gearing collected 23 assists and 11 digs, Groves posted 10 kills and 19 digs, Williams recorded seven kills, Heimer and Kortney Kimberling each contributed four kills and Lexy VanZandt had nine receive passes and 12 digs.
