A weekend event at Smallin Civil War Cave in Ozark offers a glimpse into life for civilians and soldiers of southwest Missouri in the 1860s.
March 29-30, the cave hosts a free event that will include presentations and demonstrations of Civil War life in the Ozarks. There will be a living history Civil War camp full of “image characters,” or actors portraying important figures of the time period such as Gen. Sterling Price.
There will also be re-enacted skirmishes, firearms demonstrations, storytelling, demonstrations of infantry tactics, reloading and marching drills, authentic cooking demonstrations and Civil War era games.
Food vendors will be available on site.
The Missouri State Guard hosts a “Spring Muster” to recruit volunteers interested in taking part in future re-enactment events.
Tours of Smallin Civil War Cave will be available both days at regular price. The cave is located at 3575 N. Smallin Road in Ozark.
