The Clever R-V Board of Education announced that Benjy Fenske, with a unanimous vote, was hired to serve as superintendent of the district.

The school board approved Fenske’s hiring on Feb. 4.

The current superintendent, Steve Carvajal, is resigning at the end of the current school year. Carvajal has been hired as the superintendent in the Schuyler County R-I School District in northern Missouri.

Fenske currently serves as the Director of  Elementary Education at Clever and has been with the district for more than 20 years. Prior to his current position, Fenske served as the middle school principal.

He began his teaching career for the Pierce City R-VI School District as a high school business educator. He received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Science from Missouri Southern State University and earned his Master of Science in Education from Missouri State University, where he also earned his Specialist in Educational Administration certification.

Fenske resides in Clever with his wife and two children.

The Clever Board of Education issued a press release in support of Fenske’s promotion.

“The Board of Education is confident in Mr. Fenske’s vision, passion, and focus on student learning and the board is excited for the future as we continue the work on ‘inspiring and empowering every learner,’” the press release states.

Carvajal served as the Clever superintendent for four years. The board of education approved his resignation at a special meeting Jan. 22.

Schuyler County is in far northern Missouri along the Iowa state line. The school district’s offices are in Queen City, a town of about 590 people. In the 2017-2018 school year, the district adopted a four-day week.
