Nixa Crimson Corps at Pearl Harbor

Members of the Nixa High School band stand on the deck of the USS Missouri, site of the Japanese surrender which ended World War II on Sept. 2, 1945.

The Nixa High School marching band visited Hawaii the week of May 26-31. On May 29, the band performed at the USS Missouri and USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.

Students were able to walk on the deck of the “Mighty Mo” and learn about the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.

The deck of the USS Missouri is also the sight of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, which marked the end of World War II. The Empire of Japan surrendered on the USS Missouri Sept. 2, 1945.

Nixa band members visited the exact spot where Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu signed the surrender agreement, which was accepted by U.S. General of the Army Douglas MacArthur as the USS Missouri was anchored in Tokyo Bay.
