Greg Hannah is enjoying his last hurrah as Ozark’s boys and girls tennis coach.
“I’ll probably be sad once we roll around to Districts,” Hannah said. “It’s been 15 great years.”
Hannah started coaching the Lady Tigers in 2008 and the Tigers in 2010. He’s taught at Ozark for 22 years.
Hannah started coaching tennis when both programs found themselves without an assistant.
“(Former athletic director Phil Montgomery) talked me into coming on,” Hannah said. “I had always played tennis. But I went to clinics to learn more about the technical aspects of the sport. It’s a hard sport to coach. There are so many details. I’ve enjoyed learning about the sport and I learned a lot from experienced coaches in the area.”
Among Hannah’s highlights have been seeing the double teams of Mason Abernathy and Madison Wood, along with Matt York and Zach Smith, win matches at State.”
“Getting to State is a huge accomplishment,” Hannah said. “It’s always been a proud moment to put our people who get to State on our banner.”
Hannah will move to Forsyth with a view of Bull Shoals Lake upon retiring.
“I guess I’m going to have to learn to fish,” he said. “I fished a long time ago when my grandpa was alive. But I bet it’s been 25 years since I have fished. I’m still going to be active with tennis. I want to give lessons or if an area school needs an assistant. I’d love to stay in the game.”
