A teenager who attended Ozark High School was reportedly the victim of a homicide that happened in eastern Texas.

Justin Ray Alec Cross, 18, was found with a gunshot wound when Smith County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of violence at a home in Tyler, Texas, at approximately 9 p.m. May 13. Cross was given first aid and taken from the scene, and reportedly died at University of Texas Health East Texas hospital. Cross’ place of residence was given as Holly Lake Ranch, Texas.

A suspect, 63-year-old Robert Melvin Galbraith, reportedly fled the scene of the shooting, according to a press release from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.

On the morning of May 14, a manhunt for Galbraith resumed. A police dog from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division allegedly found Galbraith in a “wooded area behind his residence.” Galbraith is alleged to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to his obituary from Adams Funeral Home in Nixa, Justin Cross spent his senior year of high school in Ozark, after living much of his life in Big Sandy, Texas.

“Justin was tenderhearted and hilariously funny, with a charisma that naturally drew others to him,” his obituary reads.
