Nixa High School sophomore Jasmyn Piwko has won the 2025 Congressional Art Competition. Her drawing "Vintage Visit" will hang in the Capitol in Washington, D.C. for the next year. A former Nixa High School student was one of 35 “high-achieving” MU students who presented research projects at the Missouri State Capitol on Undergraduate Research Day on Thursday, March 13. Preston Carroll, now a senior at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, presented his research of the 555 Timer at the event. He said his work was designed to help other students who use the device better understand what it does.

An EF-0 tornado struck Nixa on Tuesday, April 29. According to information from the National Weather Service, the tornado was 25 yards wide and landed at 9:30 a.m. It traveled about 4.4 miles before lifting at 9:34 a.m. Additionally, wind gusts of 87 miles per hour swept through the city.

The Ozark High School Special Education Department held their Spring Fling, a dinner and dance organized by the department. About 40 special education students took part in the event, along with 50 parents and other student volunteers. The event was crafted to provide students with an opportunity to practice and enhance their social language and social communication skills in a fun and supportive environment, offering them a fun and safe setting where they could mingle, engage in conversations, and build confidence in their social interactions. The Christian County Children’s Charities Sertoma Club kicked off Downtown Ozark Market Days at the Ozark Town Square on Saturday, May 3. About 98 vendors set up booths at the event, selling wares such as baked goods, clothing, handmade jewelry, bath and body items, home decor, wood carvings, and more. The event also featured live music, food trucks, and an opportunity to adopt a duck in the Sertoma Duck Race Festival, to be held on Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21.

Capital Holding Group unveiled their new asphalt plant during an invitation-only ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, April 23. The event was marked by speeches by numerous delegates, including Gov. Mike Kehoe. The asphalt plant represents a $29.5 million investment by Capital Holding Group and is expected to create 29 new jobs.

The First Baptist Church of Clever held their annual Easter Egg Drop at the location of their future campus on Wednesday, April 16. About 2,000 people attended the event, which included free food, bounce houses, prize drawings, and towards the end of the evening, a helicopter dropping thousands of candy-filled plastic eggs onto the event. Children attending the egg drop each vied for a share of the 15,000 eggs, and for kids who didn’t manage to pick up too many eggs, extras were on hand.

The Nixa Fire Protection District (NFPD) held an open house at their Fire Training Center on Wednesday, April 16. The open house was a chance for members of the public to tour the training center, which was formerly the NFPD’s Fire Station One. Visitors were treated to breakfast and shown around the building.

Army veteran Larry Ross, of Clever, poses for a picture with his patriotic quilt wrapped around him. Ross, who served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970 and was in Vietnam, was presented with the quilt on Sunday, April 13, by Christy Kemp, leader of Quilts of Valor, at the Red Barn Cafe in Mt. Vernon, Mo. During his tour in Vietnam, Ross was in charge of keeping 12 printer machines running 24 hours a day, so propaganda could be printed.
