A Stotts City man whose murder trial was moved to Christian County on a change of venue was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Jan. 7. Steven Calverley, 34, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for Second Degree murder and 10 years for First Degree assault, with the sentences to run consecutively. He was also sentenced to 15 years for First Degree robbery, 15 years for First Degree kidnapping, and 10 years each for four charges of armed criminal action, but he will serve those sentences concurrently with each other, and the sentences for murder and assault.

Freshmen students at Nixa High School got to hear about one of the worst chapters in World history from a person who lived through part of it. Erika Schwartz, who survived the Holocaust, spoke to the students at the Aetos Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) reached a settlement with Adam and Ashley Finley on Thursday, Jan. 23 in a wrongful death lawsuit the Finleys brought against them. The Finleys filed the suit against the CCSO in May of 2024. In it, they claimed an attempt by the CCSO to stop an erratic driver resulted in a chase that ended in a collision that killed their son, Alex Finley, 9.
