Since two new releases made about $11 million each at the domestic box office this past weekend, and since I don’t have much to say about either movie, I’ve decided to throw them both a quick review. more
Anyone watching the night sky eventually notices that there are several objects that move in relation to the static backdrop of the stars. The Greek astronomers named them ‘wanders.’ The light from these objects was steady, rarely dimming or lighting. We know them as planets. Early observations of the planets had them follow a tight area in the sky. Early astronomers found five of these objects. They named them Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Later, Uranus and Neptune were discovered. The region of the sky where the planets appeared to move was called the ecliptic. The Moon and Sun also appear to move in the same part. The twelve constellations in this path are the zodiacal constellations. more
The Ozarks Chamber of Commerce will host the 2025 Ozark Community Awards Banquet on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Ozark Community Center. The ceremony will feature the awards to Ozark’s leading citizens. The Chamber will present awards for Business of the Year and Chamber Star of the Year, and the Ozark School District will present awards for Elementary Teacher of the Year, Secondary Teacher of the Year, Elementary Staff in a Supporting Role ( in both the Operations/Business Division and the Learning Division), and Leader of the Year. more
Juanita June Ramsey Turner was born Sept. 8, 1934, to parents Ted and Alta Ramsey. She had three older sisters, Faye, Ruth, and Thelma, an older brother, Gene, and a younger brother, Charles. Her brother Gene could not pronounce Juanita, so he called her Dede, which became her lifelong name. Living on a farm, she learned the value of hard work while attending school in a one-room schoolhouse. Later, Dede began working when she was fourteen and had a variety of jobs, such as childcare, waitressing, factory work, contracting for cleaning new construction homes, pet sitting, and home health care, along with church visitation to homebound members. more
