Nixa native Cory Kays will compete for title of best lead actor for his role as Erik Black in ‘Prodigy,’ a full length dramatic thriller nominated by the International Christian Film Festival, scheduled for May 1-5.
In the film, a father must protect his estranged son from the outside world when the boy accurately predicts three end-of-world events.
This film, also up for best picture, is the second of Kays’ films to be recognized in this year’s ICFF. One title vying for best short film is ‘The Substitute,’ in which Kays portrays crazed gunman Ryan Edmonds.
Kays began his acting career in 2015 while working with Creative Actors in Nixa, which helped him land his first leading role as Jack in Looking for Andrew. Now several leading roles, one best villain award for ‘The Substitute’ and a few television appearances later, Cory waits alongside renowned film icons, such as Ray Liotta and Judge Reinhold, while votes are tallied.
A Springfield screening of ‘Looking for Andrew’ is in the works for Summer 2018, according to the release.
