The National Association of Letter Carriers’ Food Drive, known as Stamp Out Hunger, was a huge success in Christian County. Food collected in Nixa, Ozark and Highlandville was given to Least Of These, Inc., a local food pantry which serves Christian County.
Residents of Christian County were asked to put non-perishable food items near their mailboxes for letter carriers to pick up and deliver to Least Of These, Inc. Thank you to the many residents, volunteers and letter carriers for your support. Least Of These received a total of 13,482 pounds of food — enough food to provide 11,235 meals to families in need.
“We are truly amazed at this year’s response! It is wonderful to see our community come together to support our neighbors in need,” said Bonnie Schooler, Least Of These executive director. “As we close out another school year, there will be many families who will benefit from a little extra food each month this summer.”
This is the 25th Annual NALC drive. It is the nation’s largest single-day food drive and is held annually on the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.
“This amount exceeded our expectations and proves once again that our community cares about each other,” said NALC chairman Tom Carter. “Thank you to everyone who donated food or time to help us help our community.”
