Funeral: 1-2 p.m. May 24, at Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. Online condolences may be shared at www.barnesfamilyfunerals.com.

Evan John Lackey, 22 of Ozark, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019. Evan was born Aug. 26, 1996, in Lake Forest, Illinois. Evan graduated early from high school and was accepted into Missouri State University with a full four-year scholarship to study agriculture, specifically botany.

Evan had a great love for his country and joined the United States National Guard, proudly serving as a member of the United States Infantry. He attained the rank of E-4 and served in very dangerous military activities. Evan loved to play basketball, baseball and loved swimming and shooting guns, but mostly he enjoyed being with his friends and family. For those fortunate enough to know Evan, they can honestly say he was one of the kindest, most genuine, sincere people they have ever met. Evan was not only a beautiful soul, but he could make you laugh when you were having a bad day. He was a great friend, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and most of all—SON. I was very proud to be his mother.

Evan will always be a shining star and is going to be truly missed every single day.

Dear Evan,

I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that, too. I think of you in silence. I often speak your name. All I have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake from which I’ll never part. God has you in his arms, I have you in my heart.

Love, Mom
