Tracy Deane Onnen

Funeral: 11 a.m. April 6, at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City, Iowa. An additional memorial will be held April 27, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jackson, Michigan.

Tracy Deane Onnen, 71, passed away April 3, 2019, in Nixa, from an aggressive form of Alzheimer's. He was the first-born of Deane and Colleen Onnen, and big brother to Claudia and Laurie. He grew up in northwest Iowa, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country during Vietnam, and during that time, he met his wife, Susan. They lived in various states and ended up for the longest stretch in Michigan. He was very proud to have received his undergraduate degree from Idaho State University and his masters from the University of Notre Dame. He worked for Consumers Energy for over 30 years. He served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in various callings, including as Bishop of his congregation for a time. 

He had a love for old and new sports cars. He enjoyed playing golf, although he admitted he was never really good at it. He had a passion for serving, especially young people. He spent many years serving in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He lived to tell stories, sing songs and make people laugh. All who knew him knew that he loved to make people happy. His life overflowed with service to others. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He had a young heart and was always found being playful with children around him. He was generous with his time, talents and resources.

Tracy is survived by his wife, Susan; mother Colleen; sister Laurie and husband Curt; as well as Quinn, Mitzi and husband Scott, Jamey and wife Wendy, Jeremy and wife Andrea and Rebecca; numerous grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.  

Tracy was was preceded in death by his father, Deane; his sister Claudia and her husband, Richard.
