There is something to be said for a community willing to help its neighbors, even when those neighbors will be staring at your hometown team from an opposing dugout.

The Sparta Chamber of Commerce made a $250 donation to the baseball team in neighboring Chadwick. The money will be used to help the Cardinals purchase equipment and supplies for the season.

Chadwick High School fielded a varsity baseball team in 2018 after going five seasons without one.

Chadwick had a baseball team in 2013, but it only played five games. The rest were canceled. The 2010-2011 season had marked the last time for the Cardinals to play a complete schedule.

Chadwick is looking for its first win since bringing back baseball. The Cardinals endured an 0-9 season a year ago. The Cardinals have 16 players suiting up, despite last season's struggles.

Sparta and Chadwick are scheduled to play each other on April 30.
