Billings R-IV School District

For School Board Member

Three year term

Kim Jenisch

Why are you running for this position?

I am running for this position to hopefully bring a fresh look and ideas to Billings RIV Schools. I feel no matter how well the current board and administration have done or are doing, it is important to bring fresh eyes and ideas in periodically. Billings RIV Schools are very important to me, as I am one out of four generations to have graduated from Billings. I believe in our district and am very proud of it; I would like to become more involved and active once again to help our district grow and prosper.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I don't plan to accomplish anything alone. What I do plan to accomplish is to work with the other board members to make our school something the community can be proud of. To come up with ideas to recruit and retain teachers who are molding our children's future. To come up with the best solutions that our children are facing in today's society that fit the needs of our district. We are not a big school with a big budget. Therefore, we have to be much more creative to serve our children to best of the districts means.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

You should vote for me because I am very passionate and loyal to our district. I am a good listener with an open mind. Even if I don't agree with a decision, I will always do what is best for our students, teachers and administration. I work well with others and will always bring concerns to the board if needed. There are some things a district cannot control by law and must follow whether we agree or not. I’ll make sure everyone has access to any controversial issues schools face today and why the district must follow them.

Bradleyville R-I School District

For School Board Member

Three year term

Cody Rogers

Why are you running for this position?

Everyone should want to take pride in their community. The school is a part of that. This is helping to get the community involved, and not just the parents’ views. Everyone needs to do what they can to help the school.

Chadwick R-1 School District

For School Board Member

Three year term

Lendell Cantrell

Why are you running for this position?

I have always had a desire to serve the public. I think this is a good place to start; serving the people, parents, faculty and students of Chadwick schools. After all, the parents are the foundation and the students are the next generation to rise up and become pillars of our community.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I would like to give every student the opportunity of the best public education they can receive. I would like to help in securing the resources necessary to achieve the goals of a good education and also make sure there are resources for a variety of extra curricular activities so all students have a chance to participate in extra activities.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I would love to serve the Chadwick school system. Being married to a local girl for the last 16 years and raising our son in the Chadwick school system has brought a deep love for the school and the students at Chadwick. I've seen the advantages of raising my son in the smaller school system and the personal relationships we have developed with the faculty, students and parents of Chadwick. I hope they will vote for me so I can be a part of keeping it a great school and a great place to raise a family.

Marie Day

Why are you running for this position?

I am running for the local school board to represent the wants and needs of this small community. I taught in the school for several years and like to stay involved in what is happening in the lives of the younger generation.

City of Clever

For East Ward Alderman

Two year term

Jo Novak

Why are you running for this position?

I don't want Clever to be stagnant. We have the chance to do some exciting things. I'd like to be a part of that exciting future.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I'm a 37-year resident of Clever. I've been attending City Council meetings for several years and am an active member of Planning & Zoning. I believe I can help blend the older, small town ideas with the new, Let's Grow! ideas.

Garret Schmidt

Why are you running for this position?

I’m running for re-election because I’m passionate about serving my community. Having grown up in Clever and graduated here, I feel I have much to give back to a community that has given much to me. In the past, many citizens have told me about how they have felt unheard by the Board of Alderman. I’ve actively sought to bring different views to the Board, even if these opinions go against the Board’s consensus. I plan to continue to bring these views to the Board in hopes of delivering the best possible outcomes for Clever.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

In my two years on the Board, I have personally crafted seven bills with five being adopted into law and the remaining two still being debated. If re-elected, I will continue to submit bills to the Board for adoption. As Clever continues to grow and we reevaluate our comprehensive plans, I want to provide a younger perspective on the future of our community. This unique perspective is something you won’t get with the other candidates on the ballot. Our city is facing several challenges and I plan to continue being a pragmatic voice for the citizens of Clever.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I have previously served on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission and was later selected as the Board of Alderman’s liaison to the commission. I have also achieved certification as a Certified Municipal Official from the Missouri Municipal League being both the only sitting Alderman and candidate to have done so. The extensive training I have received to achieve municipal official certification will make me an effective Alderman on day one, ready to deliver for Clever. I invite voters to learn more about me by visiting garretschmidt.com. I look forward to continuing to serve our community.

Kristi Jack

Why are you running for this position?

As a born and raised resident of Clever and local small business owner, I can relate to what we as citizens experience as regular hard working families, making ends meet, and living in a relatively small town. I would love the opportunity to actively and vigilantly promote resolutions to our concerns, both big and small, as well as our shared visions for the future of our community.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I’ll work hard to protect the interests of our citizens by representing all of us when it comes to efficiently and appropriately allocating our tax dollars to work for us. I’d like to learn more about the mechanics of our local government and bring forth new ideas to address some of our most common frustrations as residents, that can sometimes create a gap between the citizens and those in charge of making decisions for us.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I have always been a passionate and protective person when it comes to the things I care about most — my family and my community. I’ve always had an open mind to others opinions, as well as flexibility of my own, and would love the opportunity to bring any of our needs and concerns to the table, to help push those ideas for change, into reality.

For West Ward Alderman

Two year term

Charlene Dellinger

Why are you running for this position?

I would like to support the new growth in Clever. As we continue to grow, we must keep up with the demand of the community (traffic, crime, citizens). We deserve to be the best little city in Christian County.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I moved here 10 years ago. Since falling in love with the community, I felt like I saw some things that could be adjusted, not from lack of leadership, but lack of direction for the community.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

Being a small business owner in Clever, I understand culture changes. I believe change can be done without affecting the community.

Ronald Floyd

Why are you running for this position?

I am currently running for the West Ward Alderman with no current agenda, only to have Clever, Missouri, be a safe place to live and raise a family, where you may walk the streets and play in the park with ease of mind. With Clever, Missouri, being a fast growing community in Christian County, I would like to help with the process to move it forward and still keep the small town feeling.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

First and foremost, I would hope to accomplish the trust from the Citizens in the West Ward district and all districts within the city of Clever, and the employees. I would like to be able to listen to the citizens and employees on their concerns and ideas to take Clever forward in a positive way. I would like to accomplish the ability to be the trusted ears and voice for the citizens on decisions made for the City of Clever, Missouri.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

My wife and I moved to Clever a couple years ago to remain in the small town feeling in which we were both raised. Some of our children live in Clever, and a grandson attends Clever schools, with two more to come. I have 34 years in law enforcement and currently hold the position as Captain over the operations of the Christian County Jail. In this position, I work with the Christian County Commission, Courts and other entities within the county. I hold positions on other committees in Missouri. With my knowledge, leadership and commitment, I can serve with great satisfaction.

City of Fremont Hills

For Alderman - Ward Three

Two year term

Randy West

Why are you running for this position?

I am running for the office of alderman within Fremont Hills because I have a sense of service and care about the future of the city. I've made lifelong friendships and have enjoyed the benefits of living in such a beautiful and welcoming community. I want to ensure that Fremont Hills remains a great place to live, work and raise a family for generations to come. I am passionate about this city and its residents, and I want to continue to work hard every day to make sure that the city continues to thrive, and our residents prosper.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

As alderman, I would continue to represent the needs and concerns of all our residents. I would continue to prioritize transparency and collaboration to ensure that the decisions we make are in the best interest of our residents. I would continue to keep the city financially strong and allow families to see the value of their home investment continue to grow. With a deep sense of responsibility and passion for this city, I would work every day to make sure that Fremont Hills remains a great place to call home as it progresses into the future.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I am deeply committed to this community and its residents and have been serving the city for nearly a decade. I work with the other elected officials, sometimes in disagreement, but always professional and courteous. I have no veiled agenda to push personal beliefs, I simply want to serve and allow the impartial and well-balanced needs of our residents come first. I support a fiscally responsible platform with the balance that it takes to keep the city flourishing, safe and in strong financial health. I am excited to see what the future holds for this great city.

City of Highlandville

For Alderman Ward One

Two year term

Greg Reed

Why are you running for this position?

I'm running to give the citizens an opportunity of choice. As someone who has 48 years of public service trust experience in various aspects of government, it is my desire to give back to the community where we have made our home since 2014. Too often there is no choice for voters and/or there is no one willing to step up to the table and volunteer their time and service. Since being semi-retired, I feel that volunteerism is the right thing to do at this time. I'd appreciate the opportunity to represent all citizens of Highlandville.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

Our water and sewer infrastructure is in need of a comprehensive assessment, as our sewer treatment facility is reportedly inadequate to sustain any significant residential and/or commercial business growth. Safety and security should be a priority item. Outdoor weather warning sirens should be installed across the city. Law Enforcement and Fire Service response is always a focal point and can be enhanced. Business opportunities and growth with a comprehensive planning and zoning focus along with development of a strategic plan should be initiated to allow for and sustain community growth. And transparency and accountability should be on the table.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

It has always been my thought that every citizen, not only have an opportunity to vote, but that they should vote as this is their chance to be a part of their local community, state or nation. It is a "team" effort. Again, I want to give the citizens of Highlandville a choice. I'd appreciate their vote on April 4th.

City of Highlandville

For Mayor

Two year term

Clint Ellingsworth

Why are you running for this position?

The citizens of Highlandville deserve a leader with a proven track record of honesty and integrity.  My past history as Mayor has shown my efforts to maintain a sound financial footing for our City by constantly finding new ways to cut expenses while improving water and wastewater infrastructure along with improving the quality of our roads with many resurfacing projects. There is more work to be done and I cannot sit idle.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

Our City is facing compliance for new ammonia requirements for wastewater effluent mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, enforced by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. These regulations are to be complied with by September 2024. The regulating agencies don’t care how high our sewer rates have to be. It is my job to find a solution to fund this project without a huge rate increase. Along the lines of transportation, I plan to continue resurfacing chip and seal road surfaces every 5 to 7 years while attempting to improve with hot mix overlays as funds allow.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I have over 30 years of public service dedication to the Citizens of Christian County. I spent 18 years with the Highlandville Fire Department, 2 years as board member of Christian County E911 and a total of almost 18 years as either a Board of Alderman member or as Mayor of the City of Highlandville. Most citizens don't know, but I was actually born in a house within the City. I walked to school seven tenths of a mile for 8 years until my parents could afford a car. I have roots here!

George Pezold

Why are you running for this position?

I am running for Mayor of Highlandville to give back to this community and to give the citizens an opportunity of choice. Having established and owned a large family business in a metropolitan area, I would like to use my knowledge and experience to benefit this city.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I hope to increase the safety and security of our citizens, develop and improve the facility and infrastructure of the water and sewer system, as well as work with law enforcement and fire service.  We need to establish strategic planning and zoning for orderly development such as a business park, commercial and residential areas. I hope to establish a monthly coffee with the mayor to address the concerns, needs, and questions of our citizens.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I have been a resident of Highlandville for 16 years and served on city council, resigning to form a veteran's organization to assist and support its members in their time of need growing its membership to over 145 plus members. Now, I have the time to offer my services to this office. Your vote would be appreciated.

Marionville R-9 School District

Board of Education

Three year term

Ryan Brad Wilson

Why are you running for this position?

I am running for Marionville school board because I care about the kids and the community. I have lived here my entire life. My kids went to and are still attending school here. I have served on the park board and planning and zoning committee at Marionville and coached youth sports here for about 12 years. I have been involved in athletic boosters for about 10 years. I have gotten to know a lot of kids over that period of time and want to see them have the best education and experience possible at Marionville.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

If elected, I will continue to spend tax dollars wisely and look out for the best interest of the school, taxpayers and kids. I have no agenda other than trying to make Marionville the best district it can be. Anytime you have opportunities to add to the district, be it in the way of programs, technology, or building and expanding, I think you have to do so in order to keep up with changing times.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I would say vote for me because I care and I’m willing to put the time in to do what needs to be done. Most who know me well would attest to this. I don’t mind fighting for kids or citizens on issues. During my time on the board, I have helped increase student and teacher safety at Marionville schools along with creating the before and after school daycare. We have built a tornado shelter and added to technology. I bleed comet blue, I’m a Marionville alumni and I want the best for the future comets.

City of Nixa

For Council Member District I

One year term

Zern Vess

Why are you running for this position?

I am running for the District 1 City Council Member seat because of a love for our city and a call of duty. Nixa is experiencing a lot of growth that will effect its citizens. We need to have our long term goals as a city top of mind, so every project we take on today maps out our future.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I want to honor Nixa's history along with helping it prepare for the future as it grows. I hope to help to balance the small town friendly atmosphere while developing the infrastructure that adds value to our citizens, businesses and area organizations.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I am not afraid to put in the work. As a Board member of the Nixa Chamber, I volunteer for many community events like Sucker Days, Nixpo, Christmas parade, as well as many others. I attended the Nixa Citizens police academy to obtain a better understanding of their policies and procedures. I work with the Downtown Revitalization Committee, as well as the Arts Council, on various Projects, as I am interested in honoring our city's culture as we continue to better ourselves.

For Council Member District III

Three year term

Darlene Graham

Why are you running for this position?

I have a lot to offer. I don’t have any kind of agenda to promote — I want to be the best representative for my district. I am always available to bring the concerns of my constituents to city council and try to make Nixa the best community in which to live. I am the only female — and oldest — representative on City Council, and feel it is important that these two portions of society receive adequate representation I can provide for them. I make an effort to attend city celebrations as a representative of City Council to show my support.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I would hope that I could be the voice of the people in District 3 whenever a controversial topic comes up for discussion or a proposed change in our Home Rule Charter. Adequate affordable housing, infrastructure improvements, more sidewalks and business growth are all topics that I would hope to address as we continue to grow as a city.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I love the city of Nixa and the people in it, and I want to help solve issues that come up instead of creating more dissent and problems. As a representative, I am the voice of the people who live in my district and should vote on issues the way the majority of them would want. I have previoiusly gone on social media and asked for constituents’ opinions on issues. Even if what they wanted was not what I would have wanted, because I represent them, I have voted the way they let me know they wanted me to vote.

Robert Aven

Why are you running for this position?

I chose to run for city council because Nixa will always be home to me. I'm a 6th generation Nixa resident. I currently live on the land my ancestors owned in the early 1900s. A lot has changed in the last 40 years. And, we need strong leadership to continue pushing our town forward. I want to leave an impact on the city of Nixa that both my ancestors and children would be proud of.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

If I'm elected, I hope to bring more community involvement, accountability and transparency. My goal is more community involvement in the city's decision-making. We have a low attendance rating at council meetings and the voting booth. I want to ensure every Nixa resident’s voice is equally represented. I would like to see more accountability with taxpayer's money. I want full transparency between city government and the Nixa residents.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

We need strong leadership to push Nixa in the right direction. Our city's best days are just ahead of us, but we need to have the right leadership in place to bring that vision to life. We need someone willing to take Nixa to the next step. I'm fully confident I am the right candidate for this job.

City of Nixa

For Mayor

Three year term

Jarad Giddens

Why are you running for this position?

I have served the Nixa community for the past seven years and I have truly enjoyed every aspect of my service. Nixa has gone through many ups and downs, but I have continued to advocate for my constituents and our amazing city staff. My leadership has proven to bring people together as a community, even when there are personal or political differences. I will continue to have the interest of my constituents at the forefront of every decision and will continue to listen to their concerns, questions and comments.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I have been working for the last year on upgrading the infrastructure to help Nixa attract more businesses and create sustainable growth. I plan to continue my efforts on the infrastructure upgrades, as well as creating new incentives which will also help attract new businesses. Not only do we need more businesses to help grow our community, but we also need higher paying jobs so our citizens can live, work and play in Nixa. I will continue to support and help grow the economic development efforts of Nixa and Christian County.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I’ll always be a voice for my constituents, and continue to fight for our community; this doesn’t stop at the city limit line. I advocate for Nixa at a local, state and federal level. I’ll continue to do my best to bring members of our community together in support of each other. I’ll make sure the city has the highest level of transparency within all departments. I’ll always be available for the people and businesses in Nixa. I intend to keep Nixa on the safest cities list by continuing to invest in public safety.

Nixa Public Schools

Board of Education

Three year term

Heather Zoromski

Why are you running for this position?

I have served on the Nixa School Board for two years and in many ways feel like I’m just getting started. I am most proud to have been championing increased legislative action, which will soon result in board-approved priorities and further committee action. As one of the top districts in the state, we need to lift our voices in support of our teachers and students. I hope to be able to continue this work.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

My top priority is to find ways to continue to increase the transparency of board operations and allow opportunities for additional community input to inform board-level decisions. We completed a survey in the Fall of 2022 regarding the school calendar and future district growth. The feedback was used to inform the 2023/2024 calendar and will continue to be used as the district continues to grow. This was a great example of gathering community input, and I am in favor of doing things like this more often.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

Most importantly, I am a mom to three Nixa Eagles ranging in age from preschool to 6th grade, so board-level decisions impact my family, too. My oldest son has sensory processing disorder and anxiety. I know what it is like to worry that your child is going to be labeled as "different," and I bring that level of awareness and empathy to each of our students. Professionally, I bring 20 years of health and education-based nonprofit administration experience and an immense network of community connections. Voters can learn more at www.heather4nixa.com.

Linda L. Daugherty

Why are you running for this position?

I am running for re-election to Nixa School Board because of my fierce belief public education and passion to see our children receive a quality education that will help them reach their dreams and goals. Our family has lived in Nixa for 31 years, I taught in Nixa for 9 years and have served on the board 14 years. Being a part of the tremendous growth and change that has happened in our community has been a privilege. I want to see Nixa schools stay strong and safe, where learning and growth continues for all children.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

Teacher retention and recruitment is a growing concern for all school districts. I will continue to be a strong voice and support for all Nixa Teachers and Staff, prioritizing teacher needs in the classroom, advocating legislators to increase teacher pay and continue to bring attention to the successes our teachers have achieved. I also want to see our district continue to stretch and be innovative with career paths, expand educational opportunities for students to grow and explore their unique strengths. Finally, continuing strong local control where Nixa parents’ values and interests are at the heart of our educational system.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I believe strong schools are part of the foundation for a strong community. We have good schools in Christian County that truly care and provide quality education for all children which I believe is why our county continues to grow. This doesn’t happen by chance, but by thoughtful leaders who intentionally set strong policies, are financially sound, create high expectations and cast forward-thinking vision to empower our administrative team and teachers to lead the way. I believe our board has done this and I would like to continue the legacy of learning in Nixa and across our county.

Alex Bryant

Why are you running for this position?

Nixa is a conservative school district that represents the values of the majority of the Nixa people, like me. However, some people with an agenda are trying to indoctrinate our kids with their woke beliefs and ideology. I’m all for diversity and inclusivity — my biracial family reflects this segment of America. However, I don’t try to force my worldview and beliefs on anyone and I don’t want anyone trying to force theirs on our kids. I’m running to make sure the conservative voice of many of us doesn’t get lost or pushed to the side.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I want to see our schools focus on teaching kids math, english, science and the other core curriculum. Not CRT, gender fluidity, or sexual identity confusion. Our teachers and administrators are being pushed into the middle of radial governmental overreach aimed at progressively shaping the minds of our children. Our community is full of conservative people who love all people, but we don’t want to see our kids being exposed to hyper-sexualized propaganda and racist beliefs that categorizes our kids as either oppressors or victims.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I’m the parent of three Nixa students in junior high and high school and I’m vested in this school district. I have also been involved as a volunteer football coach and basketball coach with the recreation center and I know many of these kids. I’m an active member of our community who represents our conservative family values. I am asking for your vote so that I can give voice to our values on the school board.

City of Ozark

For Alderman Ward One

Two year term

RJ Flores

Why are you running for this position?

I have always believed that a great place to live is somewhere you create and maintain, not somewhere you can hope to find. Ozark is my home and is an excellent place for my family. That’s why I am running for another term to help make Ozark better for its citizens and maintain and improve the quality of life we all enjoy.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

As Ozark and its neighbors continue to grow, working together as a region to achieve common goals is imperative. If re-elected, I would continue to focus on local infrastructure and road improvements while strengthening regional relationships. Also, I would continue to enhance our zoning ordinances to ensure that future development continues, but with responsible, managed growth that will not negatively impact the land or citizens.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

It’s been my honor serving the City of Ozark and its citizens for the past seven years as Planning and Zoning Commissioner, Alderman, Mayor Pro Tem and interim Mayor. I have worked tirelessly to do what is best for our citizens honestly and professionally. I believe in transparency, the rule of law and preserving freedom. We have accomplished a great deal in that time, but work still needs to be completed. I’ll continue to listen to the needs and concerns of citizens, but more than that, I’ll do my best to address each situation presented to me.

For Alderman Ward Two

Two year term

Jim Price

Why are you running for this position?

I was inspired to run by a deeply rooted desire to serve others. I learned as a youth the importance of service and volunteered through various youth organizations. I served in the United States military for 38 years. When I retired and returned to the area, we chose Ozark as our new home. We were welcomed into this community with open arms. It is time for me to use my skills and experience to give back to the community that gave us so much when we first arrived. Service to this community inspired me to run for Alderman.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

Represent the will of the people with integrity and competent leadership. I plan to work with a variety of partners to attract business and tourism to Ozark. I will use the same partnerships to create family parks, businesses along the trails, shuttle services to downtown to alleviate parking congestion and create an environment in which small business owners and entrepreneurs flourish. Ensure future development includes planning for retaining green spaces, and is respectful to our history and natural beauty. Ensure the city government is accountable for every tax-payer dollar and operates with complete transparency.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

As a career Army officer and decorated combat veteran, I have a proven track record of successful leadership in a profession that demands integrity and personal accountability. If I say I will do something, I will find a way to get it done. I am a skilled communicator and negotiator, an experienced planner used to managing multi-million dollar budgets, and am a creative problem solver. If I see a problem, I fix it, and am not afraid to hold others accountable. I am an active listener and will be doggedly determined and effective as your voice at City Hall.

Joshua C. Tuning

Why are you running for this position?

It is time for a fresh perspective in our city government. We need representation in a largely growing age demographic in Ozark. I am that voice. For me, it’s time we have accountability, transparency and communication from who we elect to run our city. I feel like we are in the middle of an extremely important period in our city’s history. If we don’t elect someone willing to standup to the status quo we have always had, and ensure all voices are heard, well, I feel like our amazing city could look so much different soon.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I truly believe to accomplish what our city really needs; we first must restore trust in our elected officials to manage our city. I will work hard to build this trust by bringing accountability, transparency and communication to the Board of Aldermen. When the residents of Ozark feel those three things, that is when we can start working on the important issues we need to accomplish in Ozark, together. After all, the citizens are who make Ozark the great city it is; not the elected officials we put in office.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I am not your average politician; in fact, I’m not a politician at all. Really, I am a citizen of Ozark that felt like change is needed in our leadership and decided the only way this starts is if I commit to running for Alderman and be a true voice for the residents of Ozark. When elected to the board, it will be my responsibility to focus on getting as much accomplished for our city as possible. The residents I have visited with are excited about an Alderman that is very engaged with the residents and community.

Jean Ann Hutchinson

Why are you running for this position?

Since we moved to Ozark in 2013, I’ve had a chance to serve: 8 years - Planning/Zoning Commission, 4 years - Historic Preservation Commission; two as Chair, 7 years - Advisory Board of Historic River District; three as Organization Chair, 4 years - CCMU Extension Council; 2 years - Friends of Garrison Springs, 2 years - Finley River Community Foundation. Now, with a deeper understanding of the community, when asked to run for alderman, it seemed time to take more responsibility. After consulting with my husband and praying about the commitment and time required, we decided that I should run.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

The city has leveraged its revenue through grants and partnerships resulting in trails, parks, sidewalks and new infrastructure. A focus on new revenue streams such as electricity, internet and lodging make sense. An emphasis on public safety should include community policing, safe connectivity, infill development rather than sprawl and zoning that encourages neighborhoods, rather than subdivisions, enforce public safety naturally. The first step to addressing the downtown parking issue should be to do an in depth examination by experienced professionals with an eye to parking management, parking strategies and future projections of needs.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

Three attributes are distinctive about my ability to serve. I worked in local governments, not-for-profits and private businesses, which provided balance and the ability to ask pertinent questions. I’m a veteran of community service. Twelve years of full-time “momhood” including kid, school and church service was a good foundation for the past 10 years of investing my time serving Ozark. I know this community. I have a passion for the character, love of history and welcoming community that is Ozark. People want to keep that small-town character amidst the inevitable growth; I share that value.

City of Ozark

For Mayor

Two year term

Eddie Campbell

Why are you running for this position?

I'm passionate about our community. I’m the most experienced candidate, having served on two appointed boards from 2008 until 2010. In 2010, I was elected to City Council, currently serving on my fifth term. My 48-year career in industrial construction management and commercial construction management uniquely qualifies me to be the most knowledgeable regarding infrastructure projects. My eight years of serving as the Ozark Police Department liaison has given me immeasurable insight to its inner workings. Three previous mayors have attested to the fact that I am prepared for City Council meetings.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

Sustainable revenue resources without asking the citizens for an increase in any city-wide tax rates. Grow South Street into a thriving retail corridor. Additional revitalization of our historic downtown. Further substantial improvements to our transportation and utility infrastructure. Establishing Ozark as the Historic Destination while improving the "Quality of Life" that provides well-paying jobs, culture and recreational venues, with various amenities to socialize, shop, eat, lodge, explore our natural resources and remain secure in our being. Develop off-road downhill bicycle trails, a skate-park and bring multi-sport competition events to Ozark.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

The citizens of Ozark should vote for me because of my vision for building a better future. My campaign has the endorsement of the "Coalition for Building a Better Tomorrow.” I am Accessible, Approachable and Accountable. My personal cell phone number is 417-812-1303. My philosophy on leadership is to be citizen driven. Now that I am fully retired, I will give back even more to the community. My 48-year industrial construction management and commercial construction management careers, and 35 years of participation in multi-sport competitions has yielded me a long list of resources to pull from.

David T. Snider

Why are you running for this position?

Ozark is our home. I have a vested interest here, because it is where my wife and I chose to live and raise our son. I retired from law enforcement after 28 years of service, and I am a U.S. Army Veteran with 4 years of active duty. I have a strong desire to help nourish the responsible and positive growth of our community. Successful growth cannot be achieved without promoting our values with the families, friends and business partners who choose to be part of the Ozark community.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

When elected, we will finish critical infrastructure projects that have already been started, such as roadways, intersections, water and sewer grids. We will reassess the need for future developments, to prevent unnecessary overload on our streets, schools and utility grids. I definitely want to see our city attract more businesses, which will include both retail and industrial components. I do envision Ozark as a “work-force” and career destination for those who choose to live here, as well as commuters from other areas. We will promote locally owned businesses and find ways to incentivize their commitment to our community.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

As your Mayor, the safety of our families, friends and visitors will always come first, and will never be compromised. A prosperous community cannot grow and flourish without the services of our police officers, firefighters and emergency services responders. A leader is only as strong as the people that he/she represents. Without the active involvement and engagement from our citizens, a governing body does not know what issues or concerns are occurring in our city. The voices of our citizens will be listened to, and not just heard. My priorities are: God, Family, Country and Ozark.

Donald (Don) Currence

Why are you running for this position?

I love Ozark and want to give back to it by serving as mayor. It has been a great home for my family for thirty years. Until last year, I have not had any ambitions for public office, but after Bradley Jackson announce his intention to petition for the opening with the Eastern County Commission position, citizens of Ozark started approaching me, encouraging me to run for mayor. As I asked, “Why me?” the answers were always the same, “You don’t have a political agenda,” and “We know you’ll do what’s best for the citizens of Ozark.”

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

Three goals I wish to accomplish during my mayoral term. First, tourism: Increase visible signage on Hwy 65 Corridor, collaborate with the new city Communication Director in networking local businesses to market our city, tap into the thirty million cars passing Ozark annually into Shopping and Dining in our city. Second, economic development: Bring back “Shop Ozark First,” strengthen our Ozark Chamber of Commerce and be another Ozark voice with Christian County Show Me Economic Development. Third, for public safety is to develop a three-five year plan to support and prepare the Ozark Police Department for Ozark’s continuous growth.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I am a person of integrity; someone you can trust, a good thinker, who will make the best decisions. My life as an administrator and service with the Southern Baptist Convention has given me the skills and relationship abilities necessary to serve. I know how to work with people and to lead. The last thirty years, I have developed relationships with individuals from the school, court house, city, fire, police, chamber, service clubs and local businesses. I won’t have to spend time in people learning to trust my leadership as the Ozark mayor but can hit the ground running.

Ozark District R-VI

For Board Members

Three year term

Amber Bryant

Why are you running for this position?

I’ve always wanted to serve on the school board. My friends and family have been encouraging me to run for quite some time, but with a lot of thought and prayer, I felt the time was right for me to serve now.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

There are many issues facing teachers and students on a daily basis. I want to make sure we are giving them everything they need to be successful. I’d like to see us have a district wide engagement/culture climate survey for staff and students. The survey should be administered by a third party so it’s anonymous and we’ll get honest feedback. I don’t know all I’d like to accomplish, but if elected, I’d like to start asking/gathering data so we can identify major struggles and start having conversations and troubleshoot ways to help.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

Because I’m a mom who wants to make education in Ozark better for my children and the entire community. The Human Resources (HR) leader in me wants Ozark Schools to be the most sought-after employer. Now, more than ever, I think our community needs focused leaders who are capable of putting priorities over politics.

Ralph Phillips

Why are you running for this position?

To allow me the opportunity to continue serving, advocating for our students, parents, educators and follow the passion I have towards supporting schools. My relationships established over the years as a volunteer have given me the first hand knowledge of the challenges associated with our education system, and I would be honored to use that knowledge to help serve and meet those challenges.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

Continue building relationships with our students, parents and staff to better understand their needs. Specifically, I would advocate for smaller student/teacher ratios. Data supports smaller classrooms create a healthier learning and teaching environment. This would enhance our ability to recruit and retain the quality of staff we have become accustomed to.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

My well documented commitment to our students, parents and staff over the last 20 years. I was humbled by being selected as the volunteer of the year, have served on three long range planning committees, and I will continue building relationships with the students, parents and staff. Proven leadership and fiscal responsibility. I will always make my decisions based on what is in the best interest of the students.

Guy Callaway

Why are you running for this position?

I am running for Ozark School Board because I have a heart for Ozark and see Ozark School District as the Heartbeat of Ozark. We have opened our business in the Historic River District and engaged in the community. Public Education is a pillar to the community and having a strong school system is important. I have been involved in the community and school in various capacities and see the school board as one area I can make a difference.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I do not have an agenda for running. We all come in with ideas and it is important to remember we do not want to have knee jerk reactions. It is critical that we seek to understand where we are currently and focus on making one decision at a time. I believe in ensuring we have a positive culture that our teachers can thrive in is important to allow our students to become the best version of themselves. Focusing on this culture will ensure Ozark School District is the best.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I would be honored to earn your vote on April 4, 2023, and want to encourage you to vote in the important local elections. As an engaged parent and business owner in the community, I have the core values of our community. If you want someone who will truly put the needs of the students and teachers above himself, then I am the guy you should vote for Ozark School Board on April 4, 2023.

Joey Mills

Why are you running for this position?

As an Ozark native, father of three Ozark students, volunteer throughout the district for nearly a decade and substitute teacher in the district, I am running for the school board to be a voice for students like my own, parents like me, teachers and staff I work alongside, and community members like all of us on the board — not all of which are currently represented by the existing board and this year’s candidates — and to be an advocate for the district, specifically, and public education, in general, as our state considers education reform measures.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

Anyone elected this year will come to a board and a district in transition. If elected, I will dive into issues like hiring and retaining great teachers, addressing infrastructure needs at older buildings, creating opportunities for more and more in-depth conversations between the board and the community, celebrating the district’s successes and advocating for the district with our state legislators, and planning for future growth, which will likely include assessing the need for an additional elementary school.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I feel folks should vote for me because I have been involved and invested in our district for over four decades — as an Ozark student, parent of students in the district, volunteer and employee. I have seen the challenges and changes brought on by Ozark’s growth and the ways the district has met those challenges and where we have fallen short. If you’re looking for an advocate for the district who will represent the many ways in which the district touches all members of our community, I would appreciate your vote for the school board on April 4.

For Board Member

Two year term

Greg Maige

I want to make sure our village continues to be a premiere neighborhood. I will strive to ensure that all Village Ordinances are enforced to keep our community standards intact, and only revise them if the required majority of homeowners agree they will add value to their property.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I previously served as President on two HOA boards in Missouri, and Treasurer for the HOA board in our last neighborhood. I also served on the Finance committee of our church in Riverside, California for 4 years. I have been a realtor for the past 20 years and have also owned and operated three of my own restaurants during this same time. I will make sure that the BOT is transparent in all transactions and that homeowners are promptly notified of all upcoming meetings or hearings. I will also work to improve relations between the BOT and the village, with a goal of increased attendance at BOT meetings and input from the community on all issues impacting the village and its residents. I would like to see the BOT and the POA work together to enforce all ordinances and covenants & restrictions. I would also like to see the P&Z and the Design Committee work together with the POA.

Gail Hinshaw

Why are you running for this position?

Over the past two years, the Citizens of Saddlebrooke have seen their village become deeply divided on several issues. It is the Board of Trustees that sets the political environment in the community they serve. When elected, I will work to restore unity within our community.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I want the Village of Saddlebrooke to be a peaceful place with neighbors helping neighbors. I want the citizens of Saddlebrooke to be proud of their community and their leaders. Part of this will be accomplished in helping lead our citizens in developing a long-range plan that will provide the trustees the direction to lead our village.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

If the citizens of Saddlebrooke want their voices heard, they need to vote for me. If the citizens of Saddlebrooke want leadership that serves them, they need to vote for me. If the citizens of Saddlebrooke want leadership that is fiscally responsible with their money, they need to vote for me. If the citizens of Saddlegbrooke want leadership that works to increase outside revenue to the village, they need to vote for me.

City of Sparta

For Alderman Ward I

Two year term

James Campbell

Why are you running for this position?

I am concerned about our city. I want it to grow. I have served going on four years, and there are some things that have been done that I approve of, and some that I haven’t approved of, but that’s the way it goes when you have several people.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I will try to work and do whatever I possibly can to help Sparta grow. I just want to see the city grow and see new businesses come into the city — that’s a big priority. I want to see city streets taken care of, and to make the city better for the people of Sparta.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

If people vote for me, I will do what I can to do the best I can.

City of Sparta

For Mayor

Two year term

Jenni Davis

Why are you running for this position?

Six years ago, I ran for the position of alderman with the hopes of creating positive change in our community. After being successful in serving as alderman, I then served as Mayor Pro-Tem, and I have been Mayor since 2018. During my tenure, we have accomplished many great things and have several still in progress that I would like to see to fruition. I want to keep the momentum going towards making Sparta a stronger community. My passion for being Mayor has never been greater! I would be honored to continue to represent our great city!

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

There are many goals I see happening in the near future. One of them is completing Phase II of Division Street, which includes widening the road and putting in sidewalk from the high school to the middle school. With everything that has happened in the world, there have been unforeseeable delays; however, we finally have renderings from our engineer and are ready to put this project out to bid. We also recently purchased property downtown and are in the process of renovating to bring more local businesses and community engagement. This is just a glimpse of what’s to come.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I am a Sparta native, residing here over 37 years. I currently serve on the Sparta Chamber of Commerce Executive Board, elected to the Christian County University of Missouri Extension Council, and current President of the Sparta Historic District Board. I have an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Applied Science degrees. I am a small business entrepreneur working on opening a coffee shop and café in Sparta. I work diligently to preserve Sparta’s character to keep it the charming, quaint town we all love. I believe in serving others and promise the best is yet to come!

Sparta R-III School District

For Board Member

Three year term

Danny J. Rains

Why are you running for this position?

I am running for the Sparta Board of Education because I deeply care about my community and the educational opportunities available to our youth.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

I hope to continue to contribute to the growth and betterment of our school system.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I believe I deserve the votes of Christian County citizens because of my level of dedication to the board spanning over the last 15 years, and I truly love and care about the youth of our community.

Rick Jones

Why are you running for this position?

I have lived in the Sparta School District since 1986. Over the years, I have engaged in activities, academics and sports. I've had two children graduate from Sparta and have two grandchildren attending. The desire to serve in this position is to ensure all students are provided with a positive environment and appropriate instruction to be successful throughout their lives. I know Sparta is a great place to live, with a school system focused on cultivating a tradition of excellence through teaching and learning.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected to this position?

If elected, I don’t have a specific goal or agenda, per se. However, I know since COVID, school districts have battled teacher shortages. I believe a focus should be to ensure Sparta continues to hire and retain great teachers using competitive salaries and benefits. As a board member, placing our students in an environment granting them the potential to receive the education they deserve and preparing them for college or the workforce upon graduation must be a priority. Having excellent teachers in the classroom is where this begins.

Why should the citizens of Christian County vote for you?

I would appreciate the vote of Sparta School District citizens for a seat on the School Board. While living in and among the community, I have built positive relationships through transparent and honest interactions. The variety of relationships will allow me to represent the whole community as a board member. I recognize, at times, decisions will need to be made that aren’t easy, but I am committed to the students, staff and families, ensuring my thoughts and actions will be based on what is best for the students of Sparta School District.
