The good folks at RecruitLook outstandingly caught a rising star on GoPro by capturing a Keivon Flint dunk earlier this summer.
During a showcase at Homefield KC in Olathe, Kansas, Flint tomahawked a one-man fast break dunk ahead of the challenge of a charging defender.
The highlight has since been much celebrated and served as a breakthrough of sorts for Flint. The video has attracted more than 3,500 views on Twitter pic.twitter.com/1CBWkumomb
The play certainly caught the attention of Nixa coach John Perry ahead of Flint’s senior season on the gridiron.
“In awe,” Perry said of his initial response to the dunk. “I wasn't super surprised. He's probably got a 40-inch vertical and is an aggressive dude. It's amazing someone (5-foot-9) like him can dunk. He's not 6-foot-3. But he is an extremely gifted athlete and a super hard worker.”
For the record, Flint’s profile includes a 35-inch vertical, a 4.5 40-yard dash and maxes of 235 pounds on the bench press and 340 for the squat.
As for Flint’s reaction to his dunk, he didn’t realize the significant of the moment at the time.
“My mindset was to attack the rim,” Flint said. “I didn't even know (the defender) was there until I saw the clip. I was like, 'I didn't know I got that high.'I was happy to see the play. It didn't surprise me completely, but to dunk over (someone) surprised me. That was completely different.”
Expect more of the same, as in things playing out completely different for Flint. All indications are he’s no longer a supporting cast player and could emerge among the brightest of the Eagles’ stars.
Flint's potential was also on display during Nixa’s Class 6 Quarterfinal loss at Rockhurst last November. He got the Eagles on the scoreboard first by hauling in a 31-yard touchdown pass and finished the night with a pair of receptions for 60 yards.
On the season, Flint had eight receptions for 199 yards, or an average of 24.9 yards a catch. He returned one kickoff for 61 yards.
Flint and classmate Wyatt Vincent could quickly develop into the most electric 1-2 combo Nixa has featured at wide receiver since Kael Combs and Jordyn Turner in 2021.
“He's going to have a big-time year,” Perry said of Flint.
“I feel good about my experience coming into this year,” Flint said. “I feel like I'm going to have a big year. I'm excited. I want to perfect getting in and out of my breaks to make it as easy as possible for my quarterback to get the ball to me. That's my goal.
“My hands are good,” he added. “I’m catching everything.”
Flint’s progress offensively was interrupted a bit last season while he filled in at cornerback for injured teammates Randy Flint and McCoy Sullvan. Keivon was in on 24 tackles and had one pass deflection.
If all goes as planned, he will be essentially a full-time wide receiver this season.
“I'm glad to be on offense,” Flint said. “I’d love to play a couple defensive snaps here and there and it's been talked about a little bit. I was back and forth last year. If (a cornerback) gets injured, I'm there. But I hope I don't have to.”
“He's a team-first guy,” Perry said. “He’s going to do his job. He's going to block and catch and is going to be where he's supposed to be.”
