Green getting reps with D-I prospects

Posted

Striving for objectivity, Ramone Green has become a fan without a favorite college football team.

“I dropped them all so I wouldn't be biased when I pick a college,” said the Nixa running back, who enters his junior season having already rushed for 1,887 yards. “I'm open-minded about anywhere.”

Green’s recruiting trail has picked up this summer. He has attended camps at Mizzou, Kansas State, Nebraska and Central Arkansas.

“I’ve got to see some really good kids,” Green said. “At K-State, it was full-pads and they had me go against a kid who has 18-19 (NCAA) D-I offers. At Nebraska and Mizzou, it was the same way. There were lots of kids there with D-I offers. It was good to see where you need to be at to have those kind offers.”

The player with multiple D-I offers who Green referenced is a defender. Green got the chance to go 1-on-1 against him.

“I think I did pretty well,” Green said. “I didn't win every rep against him. But it was fun. It helped my confidence.”

Green was first able to officially exchange recruiting rapport with college coaches at the end of his sophomore year. He’s since discovered that the recruiting world is anything but carefree from the perspective of both sides.

“When you get to talk to coaches, you realize it's a business,” he said. “You realize the seriousness of it and how cut-throat it is.”

By most reports, the 5-foot-9, 180-pound Green’s best traits are his field vision and elusiveness at the line of scrimmage. He has recorded a time of 4.66 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a vertical jump of 32.8 inches and a max of 435 pounds in the squat.

“I'm focusing on getting my body right for the season,” he said. “Your junior season is pretty big in the recruiting process.”

Green doesn’t anticipate he will be in a hurry to make a verbal commitment.

“I'm going to wait. I'm not going to be worried about (recruiting),” he said. “I have a great bunch of people around me who will help with it. My goal since elementary school has been to go to college and graduate. I’m looking forward to it.”
