Green's return sees him burn Webb City on the turf and in the air In 42-19 Eagles win

Posted

WEBB CITY — Ramone Green got to get in on the fun of a Nixa victory Friday over Webb City for the first time in his Eagles career.

Green rushed 26 times for 231 yards and two touchdowns and also threw a scoring strike to power Nixa past the Cardinals 42-19.

Of course, he was forced to watch from the sideline with a broken collarbone a year ago when the Eagles claimed their program’s first victory against eventual Class 5 state champion Webb City, a 41-27 home triumph in Week Seven.

Nixa has won two straight against Webb City, after losing 20 in a row to the Cardinals over a 33-year stretch.

This time around, Green was an integral factor from the get-go. The senior running back capped a three-play, 82-yard scoring drive with a 46-yard touchdown run to put Nixa on top 7-0.

With the Eagles facing a fourth-and-one on the Webb City 13-yard line in the second quarter, Green found Spencer Ward for a 13-yard touchdown pass.

That score was set up by an interception by Nixa cornerback Jordan Tyler at the Webb City 32-yard line.

In the third quarter, a 40-yard breakaway by Green was part of a 10-play, 93-yard scoring drive that he finished off with a one-yard touchdown plunge.

Green’s backup, Dylan Rubera, posted a pair of touchdown runs, with one coming from 32 yards out, in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Cannor Knatcal hooked up with wideout Wyatt Vincent for a 35-yard touchdown pass in the first half.

Over the last six quarters between Nixa and Webb City, the Eagles have burned the Cardinals for 69 points.
