New addition at Century Elementary

Posted

Nixa Public Schools held a ceremonial ribbon cutting for the newly-built addition to Century Elementary School on Aug. 19.

The addition of 10 more classrooms and new multipurpose room is part of a ballot issue voters enacted in 2019. The addition also has a hardened area that will be used as a storm shelter for the entire school building during severe weather, moving the district closer toward its goal of a storm shelter at every building.

Construction workers also renovated the front entrance at Century to create a more secure entrance, so that no one may enter the building without contacting the front office manager.

The additional classrooms allow the district to move fourth-graders who have been at Summit Intermediate School for the past eight years back to Century. The fourth grade moved to Summit due to a growth in overall student population and lack of space at Century.
