Gertrude "Gertie" Compton, age 84, of Ozark, died Nov. 29, 2001, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.
She was born March 8, 1917, the daughter of Henry and Dolly (Weatherford) Baty. During her youth, the family lived in Rogersville.
Her parents preceded her in death as well as her husband, Lester in 1985, a granddaughter Robin Mitchell Reitz, three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include: Three children, Nancy Smith, Ozark, Billy Compton and wife Georgeanne, Lake Charles, La., and Sue Taylor and husband Tom, Ozark; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Foster, Springfield; special nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A graveside funeral was Dec. 2 in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield, with Rev. James "Hobo" Applegate officiating under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark
