Ozark School District Foundation grants

Posted

Three Ozark School District employees received Ozark School District Foundation grants adding up to $2,000.

The foundation awarded Ozark High School Athletic Director Yancey Little and physical fitness teacher Corey Roy a $1,500 grant to help with the school district’s new athletic performance program. The initiative will focus on helping students build strength through weight training and nutrition. Student athletes put in a lot of time at school, many arriving before 6 a.m. and often not returning home until after 6 p.m. on practice days and 9 p.m. on game nights.

Adequate nutrition and health are vital to help with the demands of the athletic requirements, but also to meet the day-to-day health needs of a growing teenager. The grant will help provide nutritional items to supplement breakfast and lunch offered during the school day.

Diversionary Services Specialist Ryan McClain received a $500 grant to offset the cost of indoor and outdoor activities through the district’s Diversionary Services program.

The Diversionary Services program is a partnership between families, the school, the court system, the juvenile office and the community. McClain has designed a classroom that serves to build self-awareness and self-regulation, as well as resilience, competence and confidence. You can learn more about Diversionary Services at http://www.ozarktigers.org/Page/11326. The grant will be used so that the school district can offer select students the opportunities to take part in activities such as disc golf, hiking, gardening and painting.
