Having a library card is powerful. It’s your pass to learning and exploration, with access to books, audiobooks, movies, WiFi hotspots, musical instruments, craft and yoga classes and much, much more. Each year, the Christian County Library collaborates with the teachers and librarians in schools all across the county to host a library card drive.
This time of year is when we want to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning.
Our goal? By the end of the drive, there will be a library card in every Christian County student's hand.
Throughout the month of October, library card applications were delivered to school teachers and librarians, and then the completed applications were collected for processing. Having an accurate count of completed applications is an important part of the process, because the school with the highest percentage of students registered for a library card is awarded a $200 check, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, to purchase new books and materials.
Which school had the highest percentage for 2021? Ozark High School!
Thanks to the efforts of Librarian Amanda Smith, the Ozark Tigers will carry this distinction until next October, when the next library card drive begins.
