Megan Brown is wrapping up two seasons’ worth of highlights into a three-month stretch for the second time this school year, as she earns five varsity letters as a senior to cap her stellar Sparta career.

Brown is a shortstop on Sparta’s Class 2 District 6 champion softball team and throws the javelin for the Lady Tigers’ track team.

Last fall, she played both volleyball and golf in the fall and over the winter she played basketball.

“Right now, if I don’t have a softball game, I’m at a track meet. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t do all of this,” said Brown, who was an All-SWCL selection in both volleyball and basketball and made State in golf. “I don’t know what to do when I’m sitting at home.”

With Brown and Sparta due to host Mt. Vernon in a Class 2 Quarterfinal on Tuesday, she is hitting .485, after posting a pair of three-hit games during Districts.

In 30 games, she has accounted for an amazing 100 runs, with 44 RBIs and a team-high 56 run scored.

Brown’s batting average has never dipped below .400, but she felt she endured a rough start.

“As the year went on, my swing has gotten better and better,” she said. “I was grounding out to shortstop or popping up to second early. I’ve been getting more and more line drives. I went to every at-bat (during Districts) with a lot of confidence.”

Brown finished fourth in the javelin in Class 2 Sectional 3 action at Point Lookout over the weekend. Her throw of 100-5 earned her a berth to State.

She first started throwing the javelin midway through her sophomore year.

“It’s one of those things in which you wish you started earlier,” Brown said. “I wish I had more time to work on it. I feel like I’m pretty good at it, considering how little time I’ve had with it.”
