A local Ozark landmark recently appeared on a national television show. The Historic Weaver House, known as a site of paranormal activity, was one of three houses featured on the second episode of Season Three of HGTV’s “Scariest Houses in America”, which aired on Friday, Sept. 25.

Scott Kauffman, who along with his wife, Ann, owns the Weaver House, said that the show sent a crew of 12 people, who spent 12 hours in the house. While they were there, the crew interviewed Scott and Ann.

“They were just documenting the (house’s) history,” he said. “They talked to some other ghost hunter groups and a previous owner and got their stories.”

“There was a whole lot of people,” Ann said, “and … they just guided us through the day. We didn’t even really have to think (about what to) do; they told us what we needed to do next.”

The couple also met the show’s host, Retta, who Scott said interviewed them.

“It was pretty fast,” he said. “She basically wanted to know our experiences as far as haunting and that sort of thing. (She) wanted to know the history of the house, and that pretty much was the focus of what she was asking.”

‘She’s funny,” Ann said. “She’s made for TV, for sure.”

What remains a mystery to Scott is how they got HGTV’s attention.

“I’m still curious to know how they found out about the Weaver House,” he said. “I didn’t know that anybody in New York could possibly even know about it.”

The Weaver House is one of 20 reportedly haunted houses that will appear on the show over the course of the season. The one that is deemed “scariest” will receive a $150,000 makeover from the show’s interior designer, Allison Victoria.

The Weaver House is available for rental as an AirBnb, and is considered a “guest favorite” and is among the “top one-percent” of available locations, based on customer ratings. For more information, or to book a stay, go online to www.airbnb.com and search for the Weaver House in Ozark, Mo.
