Confirmed cases of Avian Influenza reported in Christian County
The Springfield-Greene County Health Department (SGCHD) announced on Thursday, Oct. 29, that four cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) were confirmed in waterfowl in Christian County.
“HPAI can spread to people and pets through direct contact with infected wild birds or contact with their feces or contaminated environments,” the SGCHD stated in their report. “While the suspected cases were reported in the southeast part of the county, SGCHD advises all Greene County residents to take precautions, as wild birds often fly to and interact with other areas.”
Residents are advised to avoid contact with wild birds, such as the Canadian goose pictured above, and also keep all pets from interacting with them. The full notice can be read online at https://health.springfieldmo.gov/m/newsflash.
