I got a new baby quilt finished for a friend of mine. Now, it put me in the mood for being creative, even though there are too many projects going on around me.

I feel so sad for all the many folks who have been in the huge flood in Texas. Those can happen so quickly and without warning. Swan Creek can get dangerous sometimes, but nothing compared to the Texas Flood.

Another day, more money spent. I may need to spend more time off the road. Of course, I spend the most money on the farm ( a place I love).

Summertime has sure come, and the wind has made the heat feel worse. It doesn't help that my air conditioner stopped on Friday evening, and they can't get here to fix it until early Monday morning. Oh well, I lived without an air conditioner for many years, and a few days won't hurt me. It will make me appreciate it more when it gets fixed.

That old wind just keeps on blowing and moving things around. When I look out and things look strange, it is because that was either in the backyard or maybe out in the field the day before.

One week of April is behind us, and we had every kind of weather this past week. I feel for all the folks whose life had been destroyed by floods, tornadoes, fires, or just plain old heavy winds. The water went across my pasture in three small streams. It didn't take the fences out like it had in the past.

We finally got a couple of showers Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. As I look out my window, I can now see lots of green grass. It isn't very high yet, but it looks promising.

What a beautiful weekend! There was just not enough time to be outside. Of course, when one is out on a farm, you can count on work to be done. I don't know how one can think of so many things to done all at one time. It is a good plan, but the energy wears down too quickly. That does leave a plan for the next pretty day. I was looking forward to the rain the weatherman said we might get. None here.

On Tuesday, April 8, Christian County residents will go to the polls to cast their votes in a series of elections to determine who will hold office in local bodies of government, such as their Board of Aldermen or Board of Education. There has been a super amount of excitement in and around our community for a few weeks. Our two basketball teams qualified to play in the State playoffs in Columbia over the weekend. The last game the girls played they beat by just one point (one couldn't get closer than that). The last game the boys played, they beat 52 to 73. The kids and their many fans are going to have great memories for many years. Congratulations to everyone. Now is the time to celebrate! Lots of parties in the near future. I was really glad that folks who were at games kept putting what was happening on Facebook. I, for one, enjoyed every game I went to.

It is going to take some time to get adjusted to the hour change. Could we just leave it one way or the other, so we don't have to deal with it twice each year?

The snow and cold days are behind us (for a while). There have been reports of frozen pipes and other farm problems with folks needing to check cows often since it is calving season. That part of winter is always a dread.

On Monday, Feb. 10, Gretchen House, a senior at Chadwick High School, was informed that she was a finalist in the National Merit program. This was a highly impressive achievement in itself, as out of the 1.3 million students across the country who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), only 15,000 were chosen as finalists. For House, however, the designation also carries a special significance: She is the first student in the Chadwick R-1 School District to ever be named a finalist in the National Merit program.
