After Vincent homer, Eagles shut out over final six innings in District final loss

SPRINGFIELD — A matchup between a pair of Missouri State commits had much to do with Nixa’s 4-2 loss to Glendale in the Class 6 District 6 championship game Saturday.

Eagles center fielder Wyatt Vincent homered off of Glendale pitcher Drew Wedgeworth to account for Nixa’s only runs. Alas, Wedgeworth induced a groundout off the bat of Vincent to end the game.

Wedgeworth also beat Nixa in the teams’ regular-season meeting 2-1 in March.

Saturday's title tilt saw Vincent drill a two-run homer in the first inning to put the Eagles on top 2-0. He scored designated hitter Caleb Jones, who had singled.

Vincent accounted for five RBIs in Nixa’s three District games.

Wedgworth shut out Nixa over the final six innings. The Eagles stranded the bases loaded in the second.

Glendale tied the score at 2 in the third and took the lead in the fourth.

Nixa starting pitcher Nate Uber threw three-plus innings, before being relieved by Grady Eoff.

The Eagles (23-15) scored two runs or less in 10 games on the season and were 2-8 in those contests.
