Clever's first five weeks by the numbers:
Wide receiver Xavier Robinson is living up to his pre-season hype. Opponents know the super soph is Clever's top receiving target, but he has still hauled in 22 receptions for 228 yards, an average of 10.3 yards a catch.
The combined record of Clever's first five opponents is 14-11. Sarcoxie is 5-0, Forsyth 4-1, Strafford 3-1, Pierce City 1-4 and Springfield Central 1-4.
Clever's defense is allowing an average of 39.8 points a game. The lowest season average for points the Jays have given up is 41.8, set in 2020.
Somebody will break into the win column this week, with Clever (0-5) traveling to fellow Mid-Lakes Conference member Skyline (0-5). Skyline enjoyed four straight winning seasons from 2018-2021, but is 2-13 since.
Linebacker Austin Scott has been a disruptive defensive force, racking up seven stops in the opposing offensive backfield. He has five TFLs and a pair of quarterback sacks. Altogether, Scott has 35 tackles, to go along with two blocked kicks and one pass broken up.
Robinson hs starred from his safety post, as well. He has collected three interceptions and 30 tackles.
Aven Guajardo tops the Jays with 40 tackles.

Quarterback Lane Mendenhall has throw for 91 yards while completing 16-of-29 passes for 55.2-percent accuracy.
Running back Quentin Lemmer leads Clever's ground game with 60 carries for 228 yards and one touchdown.
