Nixa defense nets four quarterback sacks and a pick-six while shutting out CJ

Posted

Nixa posted its first shutout in two years while taking care of Carl Junction by a 47-0 count Friday.

The Eagles' Jayden Antonelli,  Eli Frazier, Broden Made and Zane Stewart all had a quarterback sack. The defense put up a touchdown itself, with McCoy Sullivan recording a pick-six.

The Eagles (6-0) have outscord the Bulldogs 201-29 in the teams' last four meetings.

The turbo clock went into effect with 2:53 remaining in the third quarter.

Offensively, Nixa's biggest play was a Wyatt Vincent  75-yard touchdown run.

Dylan Rebura scored on a one-yard plunge and a pair of five-yard touchdown runs. He has eight touchdowns on the season.

Malachi Rider upped his team-high touchdowns total to 11 with a one-yard plunge.

Lane Meltabarger caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Nate Uber. Both of Meltabarger's catches this season have been for touchdowns.

Carl Junction (1-5) actually reached the red zone on each of its first three possessions, only to de denied.

On the Bulldogs' opening  series, they appeared to move the ball to the Nixa five-yard line, before two holding calls and an unsportsmanlike penalty all but ended the drive. CJ reached the Nixa 20-yard line on its second possession, before a holding call again stalled the drive. The Bulldogs got to the Eagles' 16 on their third drive, but turned the ball over on a fumble.
