Clever is in a new league, and five other Christian County schools welcome some new conference opponents in the fall of 2018.
July 1 marked Clever’s move to the Mid-Lakes Conference. It joins the likes of Fair Grove, Strafford, Skyline, Stockton, and Forsyth as the six schools comprising the Mid-Lakes.
For at least two years, the Mid-Lakes will have only five football teams. Clever begins its first season of junior varsity football this fall, building toward plans for the Blue Jays to field a varsity football team in the fall of 2020.
Another conference more familiar to Christian County sports fans, the SouthWest Central League, will have a new look in the fall of 2018. Purdy High School and Southwest High School join the SWCL, coming from the Ozark 7 Conference. The SWCL will now have eight teams: Billings, Sparta, Spokane, Crane, Galena, Purdy and Southwest.
Southwest, located in Washburn, serves southern Barry County.
Nixa and Ozark will maintain their alignment with the Central Ozark Conference, which drops its previous divisions and will now consist of 10 schools. Joplin joins the former COC Large schools in what will now be simply known as the COC.
The former COC is broken up, with five of its former schools joining the 14-school Big 8 Conference, and Bolivar starting its first year of independent affiliation.
