Clever's Clark captures triple jump State title; Jays, Lady Jays net 18 medals

JEFFERSON CITY — Clever's Maliya Clark was at her best when it counted most.

Clark rose to the occasion while recording a PR of 38-1 1/2 in her final attempt to to win the triple jump at the Class 3 State Track Meet on Saturday.

Clark edged her season-long rival, Versailles’ Kylee Richey, by more than two feet. Clark's PR had been 37-10 3/4.

Altogether, Cleve's girls and boys earned 18 medals in nine events.

In the long jump, Clark recorded a PR of 18-2 1/4 twice to place third. The winning jump was 19-0 1/2.

Clark was second in her heat and sixth overall in the 100 hurdles prelims while setting a PR of 15.42. She was also sixth in the finals with a 15.56.

Clever’s 4 x 200 relay of Cowles, Sydney Bollenbach, Clark and Flood was fifth (1:45.14), after being sixth (1:46.76) in the prelims.

Flood was sixth in the 400 (59.55).  

The Lady Jays’ 4 x 400 relay of Riley Britton, Brylie Hicks, Valerie Cowles and Flood took seventh (4:11.42), after being third in prelims (4:07.04).

Cowles tied for seventh in the high jump (4-11) and was 11th in the 300 hurdles (48.67).

On the boys side, the Jays’ 4 x 400 relay of Gage Evans, Matthew Edge, Xavier Robinson and Lucas Peebles placed fourth (3:28.12). The foursome made the finals by finishing eighth (3:28.26).  

Robinson was seventh in the high jump (6-2 1/2).

Peebles just missed the finals by placing ninth in the 400 (51.09), while Evans was 10th in the 300 hurdles (41.48).

Sparta Hansen takes third; 

Spokane’s Bryan finishes fifth

In Class 2, Sparta’s Penelope Hansen was third in the shot put while posting a PR of 37-3. She reached at least 35-0 on five of her six throws. The winning throw was 38-8 1/4 by a freshman from Butler.

The Lady Trojans’ 4 x 800 relay of Rylie McMurry, Alivia Loveland, Kahlen Humble and Arianna Blevins was 12th (10:51).

Spokane’s Sydney Bryan made the 300 hurdles finals with a 47.42 and she turned in a 46.74 while finishing fifth in the finals.

She was 14th in the 200 (26.71).

The Lady Owls’ 4 x 400 of Bryan, Makenna Gideon, Kate Lynne Hensley and Ella Christenson was 15th (4:27.44).

Heimer runner-up in javelin, 

Clark medals in 100, 200

In Class 1, Billings’ Grant Heimer placed second in the javelin with a throw of 162-2. He had another throw reach 160-9.

The winning throw was 175-9.

Billings’ Kameron Clark recorded a PR of 22.48 while taking third in the 200. 

The winning time was 22.22.

Clark false-started in the 100 finals. He made the 100 and 200 finals by finishing fourth in both with times of 11.17 of 22.66.

The Wildcats’ 4 x 100 relay of Dylan Edwards, Kaiden Blakemore, Chance Shaffer and Clark was ninth (46.15).

Chadwick’s 4 x 800 relay of Emily Landry, Alexis Loveland, Macy Landry and Rae Little finished fourth (10:22).

Macy Landry was eighth in the 3,200 (12:39).

The Lady Cardinals’ 4 x 400 relay of Emily Landry, Macy Landry, Gretchen House and Little was ninth (4:22.65).

The Cardinals’ Tristan Smith finished 14th in the long jump (18-0 1/2).
