Nixa freshman Peyton Moore wrestles Friday against Park Hill freshman Cael Keck at the State Wrestling Championships at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.

Nixa’s Peyton Moore will become the first Eagle to wrestle for a state championship since Christian Lance won the Class 4 220-pound title in 2015. With a semifinal win Friday, Moore earned a berth in the 106-pound final at the Class 4 State Tournament.

Moore, a freshman, defeated Blue Springs sophomore Cayden Dotson (46-8) 5-2 in the semifinal round. It was Moore's second three-point win of the day.

Moore (45-9) advances to meet another freshman, Liberty's Easton Hilton (47-4) on Saturday.

Hilton won a 4-1 decision against DeSmet's Colton King (35-5) in the other semifinal.

Moore collected an 8-5 victory earlier Friday against Park Hill’s Cael Keck in quarterfinal action. It raised the freshman’s record to 44-9.

Nixa sophomore Kolyn Eli kept his medal hopes alive by winning in the second round of wrestlebacks. He gained a 3-0 win over Liberty’s Logan Rathjen to improve to 45-15.

Elsewhere in wrestlebacks, Ozark Wyatt Snyder (113) and Clayton Moison (120) and Nixa’s Deagan Fugitt (113) were all eliminated in the second round of wrestlebacks. Snyder lost 5-2 to Jefferson City’s Garrett Butell. Fugitt lost 11-3 to Francis Howell’s Eric Lovelace. Moison fell 7-1 to Belton’s Brayden Bradley.

In the girls tourney, Nixa's Ashlyn Eli fell in the semifinal round at 103 pounds Friday. She was pinned by Kearney's Emalie Olson in 1:00.

Eli (23-2) was due to meet Camdenton's Taylor Mustain in wrestlebacks.
