The First Baptist Church of Clever held their annual Easter Egg Drop at the location of their future campus on Wednesday, April 16. About 2,000 people attended the event, which included free food, bounce houses, prize drawings, and towards the end of the evening, a helicopter dropping thousands of candy-filled plastic eggs onto the event. Children attending the egg drop each vied for a share of the 15,000 eggs, and for kids who didn’t manage to pick up too many eggs, extras were on hand. more

Ross, who served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970 and was in Vietnam, was presented with the quilt on Sunday, April 13, by Christy Kemp, leader of Quilts of Valor, at the Red Barn Cafe in Mt. Vernon, Mo. During his tour in Vietnam, Ross was in charge of keeping 12 printer machines running 24 hours a day, so propaganda could be printed. Christian County voters approved Ambulance District Property Tax Relief, a ballot measure that the Christian County Ambulance District put forth on the ballot for the election held on Tuesday, April 8. During the election, 2,770 people, or 52.29 percent of the voters, cast “Yes” votes for the proposition, while 2,527 people, or 47.71 percent of those who voted, cast “No” votes. more
A Marshfield man was booked into the Greene County Jail in the early hours of Tuesday, March 18 after he allegedly fled from a Republic police officer and, while driving at speeds of up to 104 miles per hour, led law enforcement on a chase that ended in Christian County. Vinson Scott Patrom, 36, is charged with aggravated fleeing a stop and leaving the scene of an accident. more
On Tuesday, April 8, Christian County residents will go to the polls to cast their votes in a series of elections to determine who will hold office in local bodies of government, such as their Board of Aldermen or Board of Education. The Christian County Livestock & Forage Conference has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., Monday, Mar. 17 at the First Baptist Church, 105 Kennedy Ave., Clever, Mo. This event was rescheduled due to weather concerns on Feb. 20. A flyer is attached. more

A catered barbecue dinner will be provided free of charge, compliments of program sponsors, including Bank of Billings, Christian County Farm Bureau, Christian County Soil & Water Conservation District, Earlybird Feed & Fertilizer, Nixa Hardware and Seed Company, Phillip Veterinary Services and Southern Bank of Clever.University of Missouri Extension agricultural business specialist Wesley Tucker will discuss “Bullet-Proofing Your Beef Operation.” “Making our Farms More Drought Resilient” will be the theme for two other presentations. Sarah Kenyon, regional grazing coordinator with Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, will focus on warm season forages. Ian McGregor, MU Extension field specialist in livestock, will focu on the cool season forage side of drought management. more

Friday, Dec. 6, marked an exciting step forward for Clever School District as they officially broke ground on their new building project made possible by the support of the Clever community. Representatives from Snyder Construction, Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective, and Raymond James Financial were on hand as Clever Superintendent Dr. Breeden, district administrators, and Board of Education members broke ground to officially kick off this project. They were also joined by some of the students who will be among the first to experience the new addition once it’s completed! more

Five Clever High School choir students were selected to participate in the south-central region’s annual All-District Honor Choir hosted by the Missouri Music Educators Association. Jason Williams (12th grade), Jackson Pojar (10th grade), Maci Peters (11th grade), Allison Rice (12th grade), and Madeline Swope (11th grade) took part in an arduous audition process where only 200 musicians were selected. more

After just over five years of serving as Clever’s Chief of Police, Jeffrey Lofton has resigned from his position. His last day on duty was Friday, May 24, 2024. more
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, announced that Jeff Lofton, Clever Police Chief, was honored with a “Patriot” award in recognition of extraordinary support of its employees and family members of those who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. more
