Geraldine Marie Gawel, 75, of Ozark, died Sept. 10.
She was born June 10, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Barney and Sabina (Zatarsky) Gawrys. After graduation from Catholic High School in Chicago, Geraldine worked at Sears for several years. On Dec. 4, 1965, she and Joseph Robert Gawel were married. Mother to five children, Geraldine was always busy working with what she loved most, her family. She later enjoyed crafts, gardening and working on her computer.
They moved to Ozark following Joe’s retirement 23 years ago. Geraldine was a member of Glenstone Baptist Church in Springfield.
Survivors include: Her husband, Joe; five children, Laura Westley (Jeff) of Joplin, Linda Gawel (Mark Wisner) of Springfield, Joelann Gawel of Carbindale, IL, Joe Gawel Jr. (Chris) of Springfield, and Denise Andersen (Annette) of Edgewater, FL; ten grandchildren, Tim, Jim, Matt, Michael, John, Brian, Alexis, Jarred, Simeon, and Corbin; two brothers, Ron Gawrys (Ester) and Gene Gawrys (Janie); and a sister Joyce Kubiak (Stan).
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Leonard Gawrys.
